You could try downloading and installing python (https://www.python.org/downloads/windows/, make sure to select add to path when installing) and running this script from your desktop (copy the contents into a file and save it as something like makeupdate.py).

It will create an archive for you called update.zip from wherever you ran the script.

Might be missing a few bits like the config program and such, but the vast majority of it should be fine, I would think.

the last link he posted does not work. I'm not sure weather the download will be client exclusive. It shouldn't be. I'll test and call it out as fast as i can when its up. so don't fret. i have a backup machine anyways.

I'm a real amateur when it comes to doing an update like this. Is it a case of dragging all the folders/files into the Final Fantasy XI folder and doing 'Copy and Replace', akin to an XI View update?

Yes it is exactly the same. make sure POL viewer isnt open just in case and be sure to merge/overwrite all files.
