Is it possible that the gear and whatnot was early on in the download?

I had it all since people notice check version was up, but I do not know how to make a zip.

If you're in Win7:
Go to your FFXI folder (C:\ProgFiles\POL\SE\FFXI) then do a search for files modified today (top right corner), then highlight them all and add to zip file. Hopefully your zip program is integrated in your windows shell. If not, open your zip program, and drag the files in, and the instructions should be easy to follow at that point.

If you're not on Win7, I'm not sure how to do a date search for files, but it should be pretty easy to figure out.

Well that is silly and very easy. I am getting a lot of other shit files that I know were not modified. Ill make a zip and upload. Dropbox?

It might also pick up some files that were modified during the day, log files and what not. Try sorting them by date and pick up the ones modified after the servers went down.

I've never zipped up a patch, but I'd presume thats how it goes. I cant see why the procedure would be different.

Alright so it did not compress correctly. every file is in one zip folder and it did not keep its architecture.

Depending on the number/size of the files, you may want to consider splitting it into two or possibly even three parts to avoid any errors during packing.

if you're in the correct folder where you did the search by modified, send to compressed folder (save to desktop) should end up with a single zip with folder structure intact

I wonder just how much SE downsized their download capabilities over the years. Ten years ago, despite the game having 30+ times as many players, even congested patch downloads on patch day never went above 3 hours or so (and my internet is faster than it was back then).

Ive always remembered patches to be a pain unless you started first.

That feels a bit like rose colored glasses. I remember a download in 2006 that started at 7 hours and failed halfway for me. It was one of the few patches where it took several days before I could log onto the game again (and before I knew about community sites to beg for a download from).

I should have said that they never went above 3 hours for me. I wasn't exactly polling other people.

The individual files are downloading fast/instantly for me, but there's a huge wait time between one finishing and the next starting, as I imagine the request to the server for the next file gets put in the queue
