Put me in the boat of, "There is no fucking solution to this problem, and anything we do will end up in more deaths."

the Muslims i went to university with just got drunk and played Super Smash Bros
anecdotes are fun but observationally useless, and any blanket statements made for 1.6 billion people who range from professors in California to sheep herders in Anatolia are going to be reductive to the point of intense distortion. we casually toss around loose taxonomic brackets like 'moderate Muslim' when we should be looking at specific nations and organizations and their specific beliefs and actions.
here's an enormous amount of data for those who care to parse the numbers on what Muslims across the globe actually believe

Muslims societies come from ugly parts of the world and are profoundly regressive, but the overwhelming repudiation of violence in the name of Islam, Daesh, and al-Qaeda as well as a professed belief in religious freedom and democracy provides a glimmer of hope for the future. unfortunately as history has endlessly shown extremists will nearly always triumph over moderates when it comes to violence.
So many FB posts of a petition to CT's governor to not accept refugees
It's also not disingenuous to treat the problem like we would any other in the West.
Anecdotes are an apt term for the two examples provided, but I'd be willing to bet that for every person you or I know who is a normal American (and also muslim) there is someone(s) in their family who share a similar sentiment to those anecdotes.
Just like in my family, there are people who see bombings in muslim countries and say good riddance.
The difference is that the people in my family can't go join the crusades or recruit the younger generation of my family into the crusades - preventing the younger generation (aka, the generation who adapts to the culture of a new host country and begins the true mixing of cultures) from becoming a useful member of society.
Islam does.
This shit pisses me off: John Brennan and James Woolsey think Edward Snowden should be blamed for the Paris attacks.
A Muslim waiter braved hail of bullets to save two women's lives during Paris terror attacks http://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/musl...error-attacks/ …
Muslim hero stopped #ParisAttacks suicide bomber from entering stadium saving thousands of lives http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-n...bomber-6833551
At least before this there were a few voices of reason to keep this kind of rhetoric in check. Rand Paul was never going to win the Republican nomination but at least he made an argument against mass surveillance and nation building. He might as well hang it up and focus on his senate seat after this. And of course Feinstein goes on TV talking about how Silicon Valley is going to have to "re-examine its products" (code words for give the government backdoors to encryption) because terrorists might spell out messages to each other through coins in Super Mario Maker.
Lots of calls for decryption happening in the West, crisis vultures never sleep.
genius is always reviled in its own time
Wait I thought yesterday 'we' were saying that Belgium was 'the largest incubator in Europe'
There's an article going around about where the Tweets supporting/praising attacks in Paris are coming from. Trace the accounts to the IPs, take them fuckers out. Why is this not being done?
Just because you support the attacks doesn't mean you are a terrorist.
#islam
That's like saying "just because you support Ku Klux Klan, doesn't mean you're racist"... gtfo
