When the French say, as they are now saying, that this weekend's violence was the worst on French soil since World War II, that is a straight-up lie.

Estimates vary widely about the number of deaths in that 1961 massacre, from 40 to 200. I looked into this a couple days ago, there is simply no good count, like where the dead are named. Saying that the 129 dead in the Paris attacks is the worst is, at worst, possibly false but by no means an obvious lie.

Found a dialog on BAR with Glen Ford essentially summarizing various reactions and reference pieces that I've read this week. This is why I wish DN and other progressive institutions would have him on more, he is very good at cutting through the reactionary stories and ignorance of cause-and-effect.

These aren't all first world countries. You're talking about people who are sometimes illiterate, don't have reliable electricity much less television or radios, etc.

Obviously most of them don't favor bombings and the like. Although, honestly even 10% is pretty damn high in my opinion for straight up supporting ISIS.

Whats more concerning to me is the high percentages these places have in opinions on whether or not sharia law should be enforced everyone, religious courts, rights of women, etc etc. Theres a lot of cultural clashing as far as that stuff goes.

Um... Apparently there was a hostage situation at a Radisson Hotel in France. Some hostages were released but only if they were able to recite passages from the Quran.
