Yeah, and thats where you're 100% wrong.

The interpretation of Islam that ISIS has is a pretty easy one to reach if you actually read and follow the scriptures. The same could result from a lot of other religions. Just so happens that larger percentages of followers of those other religions have moved on beyond those barbaric interpretations.

This doesn't mean that there aren't inherent problems within the ideologies themselves.

Yep. This is why I get bothered when someone tries to argue that the Quran is more inherently violent than the bible or other religious texts. It's not and it doesn't really matter whether it is more violent or not. What matters is the number of followers of islam who take the literal interpretation versus the numbers of followers of other religions.

How many times do we have to read this type of story after every major terror attack on the West before we start viewing ISIS and extremists groups as what they are, primarily: politically-driven. Would we have to pretend to pay attention more to Muslim death tolls at hands of ISIS, Boko Haram?

But thats not a good enough reason to not criticize toxic ideologies that are being used as an excuse for their actions regardless. Especially when literal interpretations of those ideologies support those acts.
