Su-24's don't cruise at 1315kph (also important to remember that is ~800mph or slightly faster than a fast passenger jet with a tailwind) but yeah, seems unlikely.

Su-24 is basically a (faster) Russian A-10.

Russian "jet" is a stretch. Turkish F-16's shot down an old as Su-24. Those things have been out of production since the early 90's.

There's F-16s made in the 80s still in use. Lots of jets far older than that in service at this very moment.

The F-16 over the course of it's life has received monumental upgrades, almost to the point of it being a new plane. The SU-24 remains relatively unchanged since it was rolled out in 1970. That's why it was easy pickings.

Not all jets are fighters (or specialize in combat air patrols).

That's the distinction you're looking for. If you were joe jihadi on the ground, you'd be 10000x more terrified of a Su-24 than an F-16.

There is a distinction you would make as an infantryman between a jet that was designed to kill you and a jet that was designed to kill jets.
