On David Letterman's first show back after 9/11 he made a statement that resonated with my then 16 year old self and sadly it still resonates today.
"The reason we were attacked, the reason these people are dead, these people are missing and dead … They weren't doing anything wrong, they were living their lives, they were going to work, they were traveling, they were doing what they normally do. Uh, as I understand it—and my understanding of this is vague, at best—another smaller group of people stole some airplanes and crashed them into buildings. And we're told that they were zealots fueled by religious fervor, religious fervor. And if you live to be a thousand years old, will that make any sense to you? Will that make any goddamned sense?"

If you can't see the rational behind a terrorist attack you must be as incapable of critical thought now as you were at 16. Inb4 the meme of obvious irrationality of religion. Lets just pretend the religion doesn't even exist, let's just call it death for glory, death for revenge.

Cosigning this, I was worried about Germany but then I realized they are already getting bred out anyway. If nothing happened on Oktoberfest then hopefully this is last big attack for a while and not the first in a wave of successive hits.

I am very interested in seeing how this plays out among the general population as well as politically. Marie Le Pen was already gaining tons of ground running as a nationalist for the next president. Swedish Democracts were gaining ground as well, and for the last few weeks german citizens have been setting fire to refugee camps and attempting to block buses carrying refugees to their towns. Meanwhile you have the V4 shutting out the entirety of the EU and locking down. And this was all just at the idea of threat and increased criminal activity. We got a full blown event now gonna be nutty to watch.

    Jesus fucking weeps.

Warning: Contains maimed, dying, and likely dead people. But people need to see and hear exactly what happened here to understand what kind of gut reaction is going on, and the likely counter-reaction from the French and elsewhere.

BBC has been called out on repeatedly describing the Calais fires as "false", leading to widespread media reports that it didn't happen.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-n...n-fire-6830330

People are still calling photos from the fire a "hoax" as a result. Apparently, there's been rioting at the camp and the section where much of the Sudanese population was housed went up in flames. Most of the migrants are young men. The BBC apparently still doesn't give a shit, focusing almost entirely on Paris (and what they aren't devoting to that is going to other stories.).

One of the things that pet peevs me about the after effects of these kind of attacks is the blatant xenophobia that occurs among politicians using it as an opportunity to push their message and get financial contribs by inciting the fears in their constituents.

I know its human or gut reaction to, without thought or consideration, just choose to fear "outsiders", to fear what we do not understand..but can't lawmakers/politicians just wait a while before they do that? /shrug.

It is good to see people coming together though, in spite of such huge challenges for the French people right now during this tragedy.

Holy shit, that's a terrifying video. Took me a while to see people were hanging out the windows. The guy dragging his friend down the street I's going to give me a nightmare.

A link that Sum's up the attacks with what it's known.

That's the goal for AQ and the like though. They want to be fighting us because we'll never fight them in a manner that eradicates their ideas and culture. They'll use it as a recruitment tool to get more money, more personnel, more weapons, as regular joe-muslim sees his countries being invaded by christians there to eradicate islam.

And because we'll (at least not foreseeable by me, even though it's what would be required) never actually be there to do that (eradicate islam) we'll never 'win' - they would.

The worst is when you realize the guy at the door that's laying there has turned on his phone sometime towards the end.

He's been trampled and is quite likely dying there, quietly sending a last message to someone they love as everything goes dark.

I'm not saying we need a new Hitler, but a little Hitler couldn't hurt right about now.

Some media reporting about a possible bomb call in a London airport.

Also a couple in an interview that was in the bataclan saying there was a woman with the terrorist ( so that one might still be at large)

God I hope so, the last 8 months has been an unfettered wave of people coming from countries we can't even be sure of with zero background and no quarantines. Attacks like these are literally an inevitably forEU countries if they stay on this path. Sweden and Germany could do with some xenophobia among their politicians.

Sweden can't even keep track of people exploiting their lenient child immigrant policy. Let alone any sort of security threat.
    Spoiler: show

England v France (soccer match) is still going ahead on Tuesday.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34129999

"After consulting this morning with the French Football Federation and the British Government, we have decided together that the match between our two countries at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday should go ahead.
"We will use the opportunity to pay our respects to all affected and also to express our solidarity with the people of France."
