Manziel demoted to 3rd string QB for Monday night's game against Baltimore.
Follow the Boys once johnny foosball comes to town.
people defending manziel think nfl players can take PEDs and smoke pot in the offseason right
who gives a shit if it was his bye week lol
if it was a player on the Cowboys you'd be losing your shit so hard lol
Next year's London games:
10/4 - Jags-Colts
10/23 - Rams-NFC East that finishes in same division place
10/30 - Bengals-Washington
Another year of shit teams in London
Remember Romo and witten in mexico? Didn't care then don't care now. Dude put up 350 in the browns shit offense. Without pothead josh Gordon.
Story is he got benched because of a picture which came out of him partying with a bottle of champagne taken during their bye week. We don't know what he went to rehab for, but I think a lot of people have assumed it was alcohol, so this, combined with the incident with his girlfriend have led the Brownies to basically write him off.
yeah I'm aware of that. I wasn't following spags' mentioning of PEDs and weed in the offseason
I don't know how the gf thing is relevant - if anything that should have caused a benching since I would argue that's much worse (DUI and domestic abuse) than legal drinking.
I guess if they had some agreement with him that he was going to stop drinking completely, but that seems a bit extreme. Partying the week of or night before a game? Completely makes sense to bench him.
Most NFL players don't have a partying problem. You can't compare an average person's night out drinking to an alcoholic's. Not saying Manziel is an alchy but he seems like it to me. I'm 2 and a half years sober, and the reason for that is the conversations I had with myself are a lot like the ones that Pettine probably has had with Manziel for the past year.
"Okay, you went too far this time. Yuu need to cut it out. We need you to take this seriously."
"Okay, got it, no more partying. For real this time."
Repeat ad nauseum.
The dude went to rehab. Do you guys REALLY not see how there might be an issue here?
I never went to rehab, but was involved in the 'recovery community' so to speak for a while. One thing I learned is this: everyone has a breaking point. The addict's friends, family, job, loved one, even their landlord. If you keep going down that path, you lose everyone, little by little, and at various strange intervals that don't always seem obvious or even "fair".
The thing is, the addict tells lies upon lies, makes empty promise after empty promise, and over time, the people around them lose faith. Now imagine that pattern but in the workplace - how much shit would your boss put up with? Their tolerance level is gonna be a lot lower than friends and family just off the bat. NOW imagine it in the NFL, where careers are notoriously short and you're in the public eye more than almost anyone.
Manziel fell in the draft because of his issues, he got off on the wrong foot with his NFL coach because of his issues, he went to rehab because of his issues, and if he wanted to keep his job, he should've been a fucking boy scout coming out of that. He wasn't. So, the breaking point becomes something very anticlimactic, but it is what it is. It's a shame, because it's rarely that easy - people with problems, if he has one, need support. But they also need consequences.
That's why I kinda smirked a bit when I read that he wasn't just demoted, but sent to third string. Manziel probably half expects to get demoted every week - but third string? Behind, who, Austin Davis? That's a pretty big 'enough is enough'. There're rumors that Pettine just wants to cut him (and I can't blame him - Manziel might be a great player and he might even be a good person deserving of help and support, but it isn't an NFL coach's job to keep a problem drinker in line), but if he can't do that, this was probably the smart move for everyone involved.
I thought the general consensus, even based on pre draft day projections, was that the Browns took Menziel wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to early, not that he fell. The he was taken too early had nothing to do with him falling cause of behavior either, most didn't see him as an NFL quality QB.
As for the getting benched thing. The Browns wanted an excuse and they got it. They continue to have no idea what in the flying F they are doing in all aspects of being an NFL team.
OMG THE HORROR!
He needs to be mentored my Jeter on how to be a "professional"
just so you guys know, in that picture / video he is singing along to March Madness by Future which is a big deal because I think it is fantastic that Johnny is part of the Future hive
also bregs you are fucking up if you don't hop on this jets train, next stop is title town baby
