The day before the shootings, Thalasinos had posted about a threat he had received that included the words "you will die and never see Israel." Authorities have not released any motive for the shooting, or suggested an intended target. Thalasnos was a Messianic Jew and posted frequently about Israel and politics. His posts included several that compared Muslims to Nazis.

His last post, as captured by a Facebook friend, described a message he had gotten from a Facebook member called "Med Ali Zarouk" who told him "you will never sucsseed (sic) to make a country for jews ... soon you'll get your a-- kicked, you will die and never see Israel as country believe me never."

Thalasinos wrote on Facebook that he had blocked Zarouk, whom he called an "anti-semitic brain surgeon" and others he described as "pagan antisemitic troglodytes."

Don't even really have to be brown. Not exactly the same thing but one of the whitest guys on my boat quietly converted to Islam. Never made a deal about it and most didn't know unless you caught during the prayer times.

But one day his clearance expired as they do after I think 10 years. Goes to renew it and he was basically told as a Muslim he is now a security risk and they don't know about renewing his clearance... which to be on a sub underway you have to have at least a secret clearance. So once the boat got fixed that would mean being forced out or to the surface fleet and having to get a new rate. The real laughable part is he was in weapons department so did and continued to work with combat systems and maintained our firearms. And was still allowed to run gun shoots while being considered "too dangerous" to have a clearance.

Yeah they don't not give you a clearance because you're muslim and they don't say "Because you're muslim, you're a security risk". Sounds like he/she/it was making shit up.

Of course they didn't say those words. But when he got called in for an interview they asked him why he had marked a new religion and then without noting any other changes since the last time eventually ended up saying he might be too much of a risk to get it renewed. And then for months they just durdled around saying they'd get to it. So yes certainly was a bit of reading between the lines there but what exactly else was it supposed to be?

Also this is the military/DoD. People in positions of authority will often try to overstep their actual authority hoping you wont call them out on it. Had one guy in nuke school be told to renounce his Canadian citizenship or get kicked out... and then after they did they still chewed his ass everyday and if you associated with him or say answered questions on the command climate survey similarly to him you'd get called in to get chewed out to until they realize it was just coincidence and weren't associating with him. Sad too since he was on track to have the all time highest grades but instead ended completely breaking down and being committed
