    Pet-Related Charities

As some of the forum know, I lost my dog a week ago because he had gotten out and hit by a car. I'm looking to do something good in his memory and was thinking something charity related, but don't know many pet-related charities.

The one I've found so far is Chance's Spot which is a charity focused on Pet Loss and Support.

    Anyone know of any others?

Some things I've thought of doing for the Charity:

Organizing a Charity Stream for the Charity
Giving Away/Auctioning off his last BarkBox (they had shipped it already before I let them know of his passing) and giving the money to the Charity

Not exactly what you're asking; could donate to local humane society/shelter. Have them Facebook up a raffle for the box. If you contacted the Bark Box company with your story, them might even donate more to the cause.

If you want to know where your money is going, donate to your local shelter. You can even ask them what their money goes towards. Local shelters need the help the most and get over looked a lot. I worked for one in PA, and a lot of people were oblivious that their donations to the ASPCA, HSUS, etc did NOT benefit us in any way. Look into where and how their money is used. ASPCA's biggest thing is agricultural support, which again... a lot of people don't realize. (I am an ASPCA Guardian)

You can be as picky as you want, too. Ask if they are a no-kill shelter. What is their kill policy if they aren't. Personally, I'd want my money going somewhere that isn't going to assist in the killing of animals because they need space/didn't get adopted in a day. I'm sure they'd love your story/idea of auctioning off his last Bark Box. I'm thinking of my shelter and it'd probably be a big hit even though they were a small shelter.

There are a lot of rescues out there that could use the support as well. Just make sure you do a little research on them first. Some rescues are what we call "back yard rescues" and are more of a good intent to help, but end up being more of a hoarding situation and turn out to be not good for the animals.

You could also consider donating towards anti-puppy mill support as well. Puppy mills are a big reason shelters are flooded across the nation. Rescued dogs from puppy mills, surrendered dogs bought from puppy mills because of health/behavioral issues, people not adopting and instead buying from a mill.
