C3PO said that R2D2 was on low energy or something ever since Luke left. It started up once Rey arrived at camp. It hints at either she is his daughter or she has his "scent/force" residue on her.

Also to that Luke/Leia, Rey/Ren first letter connection. Isn't Ren the name of organization? Knights of Ren. His chosen evil name is Kylo. Also his unmasking was great! I expected to see his facial hair and that look he has on Girls.

Han's death was expected. I mean HF is basically your old uncle now. Unpredictable and volatile.

Didn't like the resistance cast with exception of Poe. It feels like J. J. just called his friends from his previous works to have a little screen time in this franchise. I mean Greg Grunberg? Come on.

No love for the Heroes or Lost cast? Come on. They did fine for the screen time they had.

Started reading the novelization. Only two things really so far to add from it.

First Phasma and Hux going over Finn's psych profile after he helped Poe it's mentioned that as part of Phasma's division he received specialized training but no specifics as to what that is. Could very well be anti-jedi training.

Second was about Lor San Tekka and his village is referred to by Rey as a sacred city not far from Niima outpost where Rey is. Does seem especially likely that with all the weaponry they had there compared to other parts of the planet that they were protecting something or someone

Nit picky stuff, but in the novels between rotj and force awakens do we learn what happens to Luke hand?

When he lost it in the empire strikes back he got a new "fleshed robotic hand" but in force awakens he seems to have lost the flesh.

Probably from a battle between both movies but was just wondering

I could swear Rei made a quip to Finn when they were fleeing that it (the falcon) was junk and hadn't been flown in years. (Which us why she wanted the other ship to escape in)

I imagine the hand needs upkeep and maintenance to look new and considering Luke has been in hiding, keeping his hand looking pristine wasn't really a priority.

More nitpicky but I think it was mentioned earlier. Shouldn't Luke's lightsaber technically be untouched by Anakin? He had to make a new one when he lost Anakin's in Cloud City so the one we see in RotJ wasn't the one from Ep. II-V.

It wasn't. The handle is different and so is the color.

    Anakin's first self constructed Saber.

It was destroyed during Geonosis conflict on the conveyor belt. So he made 2nd and final Saber before becoming Vader. This is the Saber Luke uses all the way till he drops in ESB and the one Maz gives to Rey.

As Vader, Anakin constructed another one.

When Luke lost Anakin's 2nd Saber, he constructed this one while living in solitude in Kenobi's house on Tattooine.

Anakin/Vader didn't deviate much from the design, while Luke went completely different way, which resembled closely that of Kenobi's final Saber.

Actually the Tie Fighters are faster than the rebel's ships but at the cost of cheap manufacturing. The Falcon is faster only in hyperdrive mode. Rulke's problem isn't actually speed but skill. Rey outperformed the Empire's pilots with no training. I don't remember if in the movie she said she's flown before?_? I didn't like that either. I guess you can say because "The Force" that's why...

^^ I thought it was hinted at by the fact that she knew all the ins and outs of the Falcon.

    "We need a pilot"
    "We've got one!"

I thought that was more of a reference of her being a mechanic since she's good with her hands like Luke. I don't know why the junkyard dealer would have her fly it (testing maybe) but who knows...

It was insightful so all good lol. Now I'm curious if any of the short stories/novels go into how Maz came across the lost saber or if it's just something we'll see in the VIII or IX.

edit: Maz did mention it's a story for another time in the movie...

That specific lightsaber definitely had its place beforehand (The Thrawn trilogy) so it's cool to see them bring it back into the forefront.

I love you. That was legit nerd history right there. I knew Akanin's various sabers looked similar but I never made the connection to Luke's and Obiwan's.

For a sec thought you meant Luke's actual hand lost with his lightsaber and had a flash from Ash vs the Evil Dead...

As far as his robot hand even in RotJ there was a hint there he wasn't completely comfortable with "hiding" it.

i've googled around and apparently i'm the only one with this opinion,

as a long time star wars fan i went in with low expectations because there's no way this movie could live up to the hype that surrounded it, it was impossible. but i was still extremely disappointed.

emo angsty conflicted teen "villian"? pass. anakin v2 of the first 3 but even more emo and whiney. shit felt like twilight.

love story, you can hug later lol.

light saber battle, sure he was shot by chewey (???) but that was still pathetic that an unexplained storm trooper can somewhat hold his own. the fight in general between rey and kylo was pathetic as well.

only dramatic moment being when he killed han which was practically off screen/not even remotely dramatic, and it could be seen coming from the second you found out he was han's son.

maybe i'm being too critical but if this didn't have the star wars name behind it there would be no way i would go see the next one.

When Luke chops off Vader's hand, he stares at the missing limb, and back to his mechanical hand (which was shot and damaged by one of Jabba's men earlier in the movie), and it dawns on him that he is turning down the same path as Vader. The mechanical hand is his constant reminder of how easy it would be to succumb to the dark side just like his father. So yes, he is probably not wanting to hide it, but rather embrace it.

I really liked Kylo Ren's character. I think they did an amazing job of making him have the rage of Anakin... dude was just totally unpredictable whenever he was on screen. Also, no thought put into killing all the villagers in the beginning of the movie was pretty telling of what kind of villain we were dealing it.

Finally, the monologue between Kylo and Vader's helmet was really great. Kylo teetering between the dark and lightside of the force; I have to imagine this will be a central theme to the trilogy. We were debating whether or not the confrontation with Han and what Kylo was saying to him was legitimate or whether he was just trying to pull him in closer for the kill. I'm sorta in the camp that he was really dealing with the struggle between the light and the dark at that moment, then just gave in... sorta like Vader looking back and forth between Luke and Palpatine in ROTJ, except, he chose the dark path.
