Only a fucking genius nutcase pilot like Solo could get away with jumping INTO a gravity well and survive the experience. He literally did it by feel, and that likely only because someone like Solo is actually familiar with being forced out of hyper by interdiction (which use an artificial gravity wave generator to disrupt hyperdrives). Even then, predicting precisely where you'd come in would have been impossible, and he came within meters of lithobraking fatally.
