Loved it loved it loved it

Shout outs to Daisy Ridley yo she did great. As did Boyega and Isaac and Driver. Great new cast

Rey could also be Bens sister hidden away to protect her from him. Would be kinda odd that Han and Leia don't hint at it tho.

More likely though it's basically a Mara jade thing where Ben aka jacen kills Luke's wife so he can't bear to see their child and also wants to hide / protect her

Still in shock about Han...afterwards, it made sense to me cause of Ford, but God damn....

I loved the old with the new. It's been 30 years since the previous movie, it was definitely a necessary point.

All the ship fighting was epic. That's always my favorite

I expect the killing Han part will be the catalyst to turn Ren into mega darkness, like when Anakin helps kill Windu and then the assault on the jedi temple

I thoroughly enjoyed it. A love letter to A New Hope without going overboard. It's a lot like Jurassic World was to me, in that it hit just the right amount of nostalgia while also doing enough new stuff to stand on its own. Loved the new cast, and I'm 99% sure that Rey is Luke's daughter, although the how and why of how she ended up dropped on Jakku as a child will be an interesting explanation. I loved the Admiral Ackbar cameo, too. I'll probably have more rambling thoughts in the coming days but its past 3am and I have work tomorrow.

Loved the movie. Chewy in particular was hilarious with just a groan and a shrug. Though I agree that the Starkiller was going overboard.

I thought it was extremely obvious that Rey is Luke's daughter, the movie goes out of its way to establish parallels between her and both Luke and Anakin (Growing up on a desert planet, very intuitive with piloting/machines, even the outfits they wear)

At first I was impressed at how badass Ren was, but as the movie went on it became apparent that he inherited Anakin's whiny bitch gene.

I thought Finn overacted a lot and the attraction he had to Rey was overdone considering he just met her.

I still can't wrap my head around Rey being Luke's daughter tho.

    - It is implied that Kylo going emo-dark caused Luke to leave and dissapear. Before that, he was training new Jedi.
    - Kylo probably went emo-dark around his teen years.
    - Rey isn't that younger than Kylo, meaning the two would have shared years together. Unless Luke abandoned her *before* training new Jedi which doesn't make a lot of sense.
    - Also, why would Leia know nothing about Luke having a daughter, given her son was growing up under Luke patronnage?

The part that made the Luke/Rey connection clear to me was when the Bar-owner asked Han who she was, then the scene cut away. To me this implies that Han knew exactly who she was (when she was making modifications to the Hyperdrives Han looks like he's seen a ghost). Rey then finds Anakin's lightsaber (still not clear how anyone could have found it since it fell into the clouds after Luke got his hand cut off), has a vision about Ren's betrayal among other things, and the bar-owner insists that she take the lightsaber.

She's most definitely Anakin's granddaughter, but if she was Leia's daughter I would think that she and Han would have let her know right away (or at least within the movie's time frame) and Ren would have known her (you'd probably notice your mom being pregnant). That leaves her being Luke's, which makes sense to hide her on a desert planet while he vanishes so she can't be harmed by people, the exact same reason he was hidden on a desert planet.

I could be totally off base, but that seemed like the narrative structure they were going for.

Seems to me Rey is Luke's daughter. She is an awesome mechanic, pilot(zero training), and an even more gifted than Luke in the ways of the Force. she did Jedi mind trick within 3 tries with no training.

    But then it would mean:

    - Han/Leia have Kylo
    - Luke/??? have Rey
    - Luke keeps Rey hidden to her sister and best friend.
    - Luke abandons Rey on a desert planet
    - Luke mentors Kylo
    - Kylo turns dark.

You can't have Rey being there when Kylo betrays. Kylo would remember Luke's daughter of all things.

ONLY scenario I can think of is Rey's mother actually leaving with Rey while she's an infant.
The crysis causes Luke not to tell Leia, maybe?

I'm okay with Rey not being related to anyone. It doesn't have to be a family bush.

Kylo was interesting to me. He's clearly a guy with serious rage issues. He's very much the Anti-Luke and I want to know more about him. I want to know why he turned. I want to know what he thinks he's going to accomplish. I also don't want him redeemed at the end. It's okay to have a fractured person who isn't just going to be okay at the end of things.

Now that I've seen the film, my thoughts:

    - Absolutely loved the charisma between Finn and Rey.
    - Loved that they kept the type of humor as in the original.
    - The recurrence of old characters was a real nice nostalgia hit.
    - Really wished they held off the unmasking of Kylo Ren a bit longer, but it was necessary as with the whole Han Solo son thing.
    - Speaking of Han Solo - really sucks that he died, but another necessary evil, as I think they are slowly weening us off the old characters and saying 'OK, get used to the ones'. They are doing a good job with that by the way - I love the new cast.
    - ANOTHER death star?! Couldn't they think of something else? : /
    - Luke looks like a mother fucking bad ass - Obi-Wan 2.0! Woo!

One thing I didn't quite like was Rey using the force almost instantaneously, and beat Ren like nothing - even though Kylo Ren surely had years of training.

-Loved it. Absolutely don't understand people saying it didn't feel Star Warsy enough.
-Lightsaber fights were great. No flips and not as much twirling around and shit like in the prequels, just fucking swinging a sword as hard as they could. Burning Finn with the hand guard beam was great. And jesus fuck, everytime Rey hit Ren I thought he was gonna lose a body part and end up full robot like Vader lol.
-Jin is my hero, completely worth getting only 3 and a half hours of sleep this morning lol.
-New Death star was meh, but only because we've seen it twice before. I still loved every scene on it, and almost thought it wouldn't be completely destroyed so they could keep a go to Ice planet in the new trilogy.
-Han Solo was the amazing. Every thing he said, every reaction he made in this movie is exactly what you would hope for.
-Rey has gotta be Luke's daughter, seemed super obvious. Was hoping to get a bit more Luke time, but understand why they ended it where they did.
-Ren... He's just a anakin/vader fan boy, even down to the haircut. Thats not a bad thing though. He's whiney, but thats understandable since he's young, untrained, and on the dark side. Not amazing with a lightsaber yet. BUT. dude was absolutely fucking terrifying when using force powers. Stopping the Beam mid air, slamming poe around and getting the information out of him. When it looked like he would force choke that one guy, but just force pulled him close so he could real choke him lol.
-Every single new character was fantastic (except for phasma).

Excellent movie, very happy with where they're going with this.

Oh yea the Han death was unexpected. During our first show, well only show to the public last night, somebody yelled out "WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED, FUCK THIS" and walked out of the theatre. The whole auditorium busted out laughing, I wanted to get mad at the guy for being rude, but fuck it I said the same thing during the prescreening.

    Regarding Rey's vision:

She gets drawn to the Lightsaber at first by the sound of screaming children. It gets more amplified the closer she gets to it. One theory is that it's the screams of the younglings Anakin murdered using the weapon, another theory is that it's the events that occured when Ren turned to the Dark Side and killed off all but 6 of his students. Speaking of the 6, it's a nod to the events happening in Rebels. The Seven Sons aka The Inquisitors, which have similar appearances as the two that have been recently revealed in the show. Go check it out.

Furthermore, the first place we see her being drawn in is the corridor which looks a lot like ancient Jedi temples were described in the books. I believe Rey WAS there during Ren's insurgency. She witnessed the murders. Older Rey stands in the exact spot where younger Rey stood when Ren was about to advance on her, but we see someone interfere, block Ren and another hand, a female hand pulls Rey away and into the desert scene, where she witnesses a space ship leaving her behind. When she is looking up, we can see an alien hand holding Rey as she witnesses a spaceship depart.

Now the scene with Luke and R2D2. I think he was recording a directive, which is what caused R2 to become dormant. He also placed the coordinates in him for the 2nd part of the map, with instructions for it to be revealed at specific time and place. I don't know if it was necessary for that quick shot of Luke/R2 to be shown in the vision, because it's not like droids can sense force sensitive people and when he did reactivate, it was right after Starkiller blew up, so it's kinda vague situation for him to reactivate. Could be just plot convenience.

I might have missed few tidbits here and there, but I think that's all of her vision. Also, I think Maz is Force Sensitive as well. She's a thousand years old, knows of the Force, she was about to show Rey how to meditate when Rey freaked out and pulled away. I hope we get to see more of Maz and hope she explains more about how she found the Lightsaber.

Edit: Kylo Ren is always referred to as Dark Warrior, not a Sith Lord. So when Snoke said "Bring Kylo Ren, it is time to finish his training." I believe that's what he implied, he will become a Darth. Also the events of Ren's uprising probably ocurred not that long before the movie. At most, 10 years. Rey is about 7-8 in her vision. In the movie she is supposed to be 18.

Absolutely loved, loved, loved this movie. Just wanted to throw my thoughts out on two topics being discussed:

    - Strange hit the nail on the head I think regarding why Rey would be abandoned if she is indeed Luke's daughter. It wouldn't need to have anything to do with Kylo and his betrayal. Being the daughter of THE Luke Skywalker would put a huge target on her back for people that want to get to Luke through her. Once everyone comes to that realization they decide that the best thing for her (and probably for Luke as well) would be to send her into hiding.

    - Regarding Rey beating Kylo, I think it makes some sense this time around at least. Kylo had already taken a bowcaster blast to the gut, and I think Finn got one decent hit on him too. Plus in my opinion I don't think he's been formally trained at all, aside from what Luke may have taught him. Everything he knows he probably taught himself for the most part, so it's not like any of his techniques are refined or disciplined. And I doubt he's actually been in a real lightsaber duel with another force user before.

    - Hirronimus, good post. Only point I'd question is Rey being 7-8 during the events of the vision (Kylo's betrayal, being left on Jakku). If she were that old, surely she'd remember at least some of those events, especially if she were there for the murders. Unless there were some Jedi mind-wiping involved or something.

I just think it's more likely that she was hidden away first. Then Luke takes in Kylo for training, to try and prevent him from following in the footsteps of Anakin. Luke fails, and goes into exile afterward.

Regarding the timeline, it makes sense. Rey was a child when she was abandoned; Ren was already a young adult. He looks mad young but he really has almost 10 years on her.

But that's what we left to question. Her vision shows her at the academy before she is on Jakku. The question is, is it her or she's witnessing someone else's point of view. Jedi mind wipe is not a far fetched concept. If they used any bits from EU, we know that Revan was mind wiped, and he was a full on Sith Lord.

Entire EU prior to the Disney purchase is dead and gone at this point I believe. Except for specific things picked out for use in the movies (like the name Coruscant).

I'm quite interested in Snoke. Who is he? Obviously a Sith Lord, but where did he come from? How could someone get that powerful in the dark side after Palpatine and Vader's deaths? I've seen some theories, but I'm hoping it is addressed in episode 9.

Kylo Ren definitely has the personality on Anakin. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Rey was the best, followed closely by Poe.

There was a big Mandalorian banner at Maz's palce right? I was sort of hoping to see an adult Sabine Wren there or something.

I think if it happens or was referenced in the Clone Wars show, it is canon as well.
