LAN party shit is for sure true.
And Asian kids are the bane of any sort of testing/balancing, but usually it isn't necessary to be as good as the top 1% of whoever might play your game lol

It's weird because I read so much about how people are getting bored or annoyed with how stale the game is, and I remember back when FFXIV Reborn first released, it seemed like Yoshida was the game's "savior" and was really making some great changes at the time. I also specifically remember how Yoshida said it was because of a certain "hubris" that FF14 1.0 ultimately failed back then.
It does sort of feel like things are coming full circle, and now with the glamour of FFXIV being revived gone, FFXIV is really getting a lot of criticism.
I've read some posts here about how some people were like, "Does Yoshida even know what he's doing anymore?" "This is getting pretty stupid." It's almost like that same hubris Yoshida elaborately underlined is becoming the problem?
I don't think FFXIV Reborn is going to fall again any time soon, but I get worried once in a while with how much people have been complaining about the state of the game recently. Is Yoshida going to become the 2nd Tanaka if he keeps going down this path eventually? Is the future for FF14 bleak?
Then again, I know here on BG the tone of things is always more on the skeptical/scrutinizing side (as it's always been naturally)! I do want to remain hopeful that there will something they can come up with that can satisfy people's expectations and standards.
The one thing Yoshida has over Tanaka is the fact Yoshi made it clear he's in full control of the game. Tanaka got a lot of shit for stuff that wasn't even his fault (and those that stated otherwise have never worked under a boss or in a corporation before, everyone has their bosses too.) Matsui even got flack when he was sent to manage XI despite development speeding up and him going deeper into the game to start fixing stuff and hoping to continue the game beyond April 2016.
DQX design (that yoshi was one of the lead designers for) is pretty cool, but some things with XIV, no matter how much people say: "oh you're just complaining the game is fine", when has it ever been acceptable that your MMO can't get certain features because of lack of staff or poor infrastructure? Normally people raise hell about that (and in the case of WoW, leave in drones) - SE is extremely fortunate to have such a forgiving playerbase though, so it definitely won't crash and burn, but longer this keeps up the more people will start to actually wonder, no matter how much they may like the game, everyone has their breaking point.
The twice (thrice?) delayed Relics just for a copy pasted 2.x Novus+ style grind was a lot of people's breaking point apparently.
Holy shit lol
Last part is best.
Do you have a license for that, Bane?!
i'm only okay with one of these but both should be used to kill terrorists
Who do nothing but shit up this game.
Can't DPS for shit.
Suck Yoshi-P 'nads on the OF.
Make the XIV Reddit a gallery of bad stupid losers.
More seriously...
Honeymoon is over, 3.0 looks too much like 2.0 and all the feel good casualness of ARR is starting to become a detriment that originally BGers thought was a breath of fresh air after years in the battered wives world of Vana'diel. The one thing Yoshida has over Tanaka is the fact Yoshi made it clear he's in full control of the game. it's a drone joke because i just pictured a roegadyn climbing atop a tiny quadcopter and flying away
It seems an unlikely coincidence that the content they "didn't have time to complete normally" just happened to be a huge jump in difficulty from... everything else ever that they did have a chance to complete normally?
modern MMO bruh
This is kind of an unfair comparison because of the nature of trendlines (as a starting point, 1.0 was far worse than 2.0 or 3.0), but it's hard to deny that 1.23 had a better trajectory than this game does right now.
1.23 was to me the best part of this game. I enjoyed the combat, job switching mid dungeons, itemization, crafting was relevant, it had promise to me. The early screenshot of 2.0 had same actions in it and so I was hoping they would tweek the combat a bit to make it faster but it would still be same. Instead they scrapped it and threw away pretty much everything I liked about the actual gameplay.
My biggest issue with the game right now is that Heavensward didn't deliver what was promised. They promised big changes because that's what expansions are for but we got the same stuff with a new skin. I don't think the game sucks like most here but I was simply disappointed because I expected a lot more. 3.2 seems to be following the same path so I guess we're stuck with this until 4.0 hits (or more, who knows?).
The only thing you can really say is that you preferred 1.23's battle system concept to 2.0's battle system. With like 3 bosses (and really, only Darnus started to show potential for what could be done and even that was due to not giving a fuck since end of world) you can't really say what the future could've held. Every fight would need to be different, every dungeon, all the progression etc.
You'd need foresight like a motherfucker to say that shit. Or a way to alter reality. I know you said it was unfair, but following up unfair statements with a hard sell is dubious as fuck.
