    Can I just say that speeding up the game is a godsent gift? Mining for that damn ring was boring as fuck and I couldn't imagine it being anymore fun or "rewarding" to do it without speeding up the game. Holy shit that was about an hour of digging to just get it once. Never got that ring before in my life.

    Agreed. I bought the psn version a few years ago to relive fantastic memories and I just couldn't play it because of the battle load times.

    This new version is exactly what I wanted. Being able to skip the opening sequence to the battles is omg amazing. If they released this on ps4 I would buy it in a heartbeat.

    I've been playing this on my living room wall with a 1080p projector. It's incredible. The port is near flawless. I'm barely into Disc 2 and am so impressed. Whatever unpaid summer intern SE tasked with scouting the outsourcer and landed on Silicon Studios deserves a full-time fucking job. Anyway, their website says they offer a game engine that uses C#. More than a few times during this run, one definitely feels the entire game has been remade from scratch in a totally different environment. Maybe this is actually what's happened; if so, I'd wager it's what allowed them to address the loss of all those original assets. Maybe.

    Like me, I expect most of you are playing with a gaming controller or keyboard (I'm using a PS3 Controller on a hacked bluetooth dongle) to re-experience those home gaming console feels. Well, that causes some issues, but they're minor. Since this PC version is itself a port of the iOS/Android port, a few things inherited from the mobile interface don't translate well to a PC environment.

    Example: You can't spam Button (PS)/X Button (XB) as every command during Chocobo Hot/Cold. If you get the "found 4 items, :10 more and points double" message or the "Beak level +1" message, you have to switch to the button you have mapped for Confirm. Same for Mene's menu, you can't play the game using /X.

    Another: In the PS1 build, spamming the Cancel button on any menu would close that menu all the way out. In this port, spamming the Cancel button on any menu simply moves the cursor to the "Cancel" option of that menu, prompting the player to further press the Confirm button to actually leave the menu. That's a pain in the ass!

    Otherwise, yeah, like 0 other issues. I'm totally satisfied. This is my new definitive version of this game. Can't wait to see what the mod community does with this.

    Triple speed + Chocobo Hot and Cold is quite hilarious once you get the hang of it. You can very easily max out a run and get all 8 items with 20-30 seconds left. >.>

    Also, the Hippaul race was not as bad as I was expecting. Think I got to level 80 and only lost on maybe 2-3 races when I was trying to see what strategy worked best for me. Ended up just doing it on the keyboard, felt much easier than the controller.

    Definitely trying out an Excalibur 2 run after I finish this one. Only real challenges seem to be the Hippaul race and the sword duel at the beginning of the game which should be no problem.

    I think 1000 jump ropes would be the hardest, in my opinion.

    I assume on PC you could fuck with the game's speed or something to make both that and Hippaul easy.

    Sword duel is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

    For Jump Rope: You can click the icon with a mouse and spam it. No timing required. Install an auto clicker and make it click fast. I got it to work after a few tries of changing the speed. I hear it's even easier if you limit your FPS to 15 so it doesn't drop and fuck with the animations.

    Hippaul: Nowhere near as bad but you can always do an autohotkey script.

    Nobles: They totally nerfed the challenge with the pc/mobile release. The timing is much more lenient. Can go a long time without hitting the button. Accuracy is really the only thing that matters now.

    Chocobo Hot and Cold: Speed boost doesn't fuck with the timer so you can easily get everything just running around spamming dig.

    Out of all those Chocobo Hot and Cold is easily doable without fucking with anything though lol. It's just a question of how much time you wanna put into it. I enjoy it every time I play through the game so I don't mind.

    If they made a full 60$ game of chocobo hot and cold, I'd buy it in an instant. And now I'm buying this because it's my favorite FF so why not

    You can do it after getting Excalibur 2 though.

    Spoiler: show
    Code:
    program New;
    var x, y: integer;
    var W, H: Integer;
    begin
        GetBoxSize(GetClient.ImageArea, W, H);
        while 1 <> 2 do
        begin
            if FindColor(X, Y, 14739704, 0, 0, W - 1, H - 1) = true then
            begin
                wait(50);
                TypeText('x')
                wait(135);
            end;
        end;
    end.

    written for SCAR divi (same program that someone used to bot FFRK flans way back when)

    Paste it in, drag the crosshair into the FF9 process, run, and start the jump rope.

    I had to adjust the timers a lot, but the one above worked flawlessly.

    Probably a dumb question, but if my laptop can run Grandia 2, will it run this?

    Seeing as Grandia 2 is a PS2 game and this is PS1, I'd assume so.

    That's what I assumed too, but I went to Can You Run It is all and it said I needed 256mb of video ram where I only have 128mb. But I also know that site isn't always right. Oh well, I'll just get it, if it doesn't run I'll get a refund.

    Isn't it supposed to be a lot easier on the PC version? With increased loading times and such all helping out.

    It's definitely a lot easier, but a lot of bosses are still luck based. I only used the triple time/no encounters stuff.

    edit: Was also doing it as a low level run.
