@Lucavi: "Blind" is funny. Almost everyone here that hates on the game played a lot of previous SF games and their complaints are extremely valid and "eyes wide open". The EVO thread isn't here to praise games that need work from the ground up.

i've never experienced a smash crowd till i went to Shreveport and they had like 20-30 man children playing it and 1 (and im just guessing pre-op trans dude). And i was like "the fuck is going on over there... oh god its smash".

that was an eye opener for me what kinda crowd it really draws.

PAX is measurably worse from my experience, and on a much larger scale.

that doesn't surprise me in the slightest, and i also feel much better about never having attended PAX now. they were pretty bad at evo, but i can't begin to imagine what kind of hellish nightmare a PAX bathroom would be.

I don't really have a problem with Smash, I've played the games and I enjoy them for what they are. The fact that they've kept a game relevant for 15 years is damn impressive.

What I do have a problem with is the people it draws for either the tournaments or even stream chat. I saw a passing comment on r/kappa that basically encapsulates the problem as it comes to fgc tourneys/streams, which is that they're there for Smash and act downright fucking cancerous to everything that's not Smash. While I really have no major interest past casual play in games like MKX, KI, DoA, etc etc, I can appreciate what goes into them and find enjoyment in it. I can do it with Smash as well (though it gets hard since shit lasts fucking forever, CEO Sm4sh finals was like 4 and a half hours long?). The shit we saw on Saturday with the Melee fans booing GG Finals and even the awards ceremony is just beyond pathetic. I mean, the fuckers can't even treat their own series with respect, in that you see Melee people dogging on Sm4sh because it doesn't fit the mythical standard that Melee has been lofted up to.

Aside, one part I've never understood with the long term interest in Melee is that compared to alot of other competitive games, there is basically zero parity in the top performers. Outside of Leffen, it's been nothing but Mango, Mew2King, Armada, PPMD, and Hungrybox winning literally every single tournament for like 4-5 years now? I don't really get how people can get so excited when it's literally the same people winning EVERY SINGLE TIME. People got bored out of their minds when Justin had his reign of terror over the US scene in IV awhile back, or Infiltration's post Evo 2012 genocidal campaign.

I realize there's an obvious parallel here with SonicFox, but watching an 18 year old bisexual furry whupping on a bunch of grown ass black dudes is substantially more entertaining to me then a bunch of white dudes with most of them having the personality of a piece of cardboard.

The booing during GG was them hearing the news that their finals were gonna be delayed and the chanting of "Melee" during the GG awards was the hypeman jumping the gun and asking the crowd if they were ready for Melee. However, a lot of GG fans said that watching the finals in the crowd was basically like being in twitch chat with the people around constantly shitting on GG while saying Melee is the bestest game ever.

I have no issue with smash outside of boredom of seeing melee mirrors, but they are seriously immature as a fanbase when it comes to live tournaments. They haven't grasped the reality of being an underdog: that you have to work twice as hard for half as much. They don't realize that as the underdog, the populace is going to come down far harder on them for disrespect or classlessness than they would anyone else.

And yet, time after time, they're rude as hell when something doesn't go their way. Its never a good look for them.

I get the persecution complex, I really do, but acting like a child when you don't get your way is never the answer.

Tbh, one of the reasons melee isn't gonna dir anytime soon is because tournaments keep putting that game in their lineup, and so long as this keeps happening, we're gonna see little retards running around. They should just keep promoting the new game and forget melee.

The outcry would be enormous. It's almost worth attempting in a bubble just to see the reaction, but I know it would be bigger than most people think. Melee has a lot of attack dogs across social media and the like. Even if the scene is small, their mouths are very loud: moreso with their fans.

Melee and Sm4sh are both in sort of an interesting situation where despite what the children think, they NEED the fgc.

The increased exposure in recent years is a direct result of the return to major fgc tournaments, but for tourneys of that size Smash would be unable to support itself because the games don't really drawn in enough sponsors to help prop up the tourneys.

This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last time. Had to put up with that shit back at EVO2013 (during KOF13, when Reynald took it that year), and I can confirm on hearing similar sentiment during GG's top 8.

Their community is a steaming hot piece of garbage.

It'd have to reach a point where the financial benefit for TOs/Streamers was overshadowed by the issues the fan base brings. Don't think we've reached that point yet sadly.

Actually, a number of events have already cordoned off separate areas/ballrooms for Smash and FGC. It's just that at CEO, Jebailey felt they needed some recognition in the ring for their dedication to the event, which is fine and all. Fans of Melee can't seem to understand that there are games besides Melee (and fans there of). Which leads to shit like this and what happened with Callisto's stream at EVO last year.

Queue the pictures of those of us watching Zidane get into top 8 in the opposite corner of the venue, on someone's smartphone.
