He's basically instructed the justice department to begin a review of the issue which could result in the ATF submitting regulations that would make sale of bump stocks illegal. The process would take at least a year if they tried it, but...

The ATF, which is part of the Department of Justice, isn’t sure that it can ban bump stocks on its own. A few weeks after the announcement of the review, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said that the acting director of ATF was unsure if the agency had the legal power to ban bump stocks in the first place, with regulation being perhaps the only available option unless Congress passed legislation. That could be because following the legal definition of a machine gun, bump stocks don’t actually turn guns into machine guns. But with the memo, Trump essentially told the Justice Department to go ahead anyway.

Obama did do the "don't allow sales to people who signed over their finances regarding social security to someone else because of mental deficiency" regulation, that Trump undid.

Both actions are pretty meaningless in the broader scheme of things.

They'll definitely clean out all existing inventory of bump stocks if that regulation starts to make its way down the pipeline.

Ya you can’t get one anywhere that I’ve seen. I’ve never liked how they looked so I’ve never wanted one but I might splurge and get a few binary triggers before they get lumped into this.

Also I’m pretty sure people are going to go one step forward and buy out the stock of lower receivers and magazines. Prices just came back down to $40 a receiver too

Honestly, Trump getting some form of gun regulation seems like the best thing he could do. His supporters can simultaneously blame the FBI/Deep State for taking their guns while tweaking Libs that a Republican passed gun reform and sensible people would enjoy seeing really any sort of steps toward reform. Literally everyone wins.

Apparently there is multiple walkouts at high schools today in NJ.

Not really sure why since we have some of the better and more restrictive gun laws requiring multiple extensive and costly background checks as well as somewhat of a mental health check requiring references, waiting periods, limits to number purchased in a 90 day period, no concealed carry at all, etc.

I've always advocated that NJ gun laws should be made nationwide with maybe one or two slight changes.
