Your understanding for why I want to ban -specific- guns, not all guns, is wrong. I'm not interested in preventing all gun deaths, because so long as they're available someone can die by them. What I want to do is curb gun deaths with regulation. If banning assault weapons lowers the rate of mass shootings by 10% (making up this number) then that's worth it imo. I don't think your right to own certain firearms is worth more then the lives lost because of the ease of access to those firearms.

Alcohol is the same way, and so are recreational drugs. Your conclusion about my hypocrisy is misguided because you think it's all or nothing, when it's not. My interest is in lowering the number of shootings nationwide, and if possible also reduce the number of people killed in each shooting. Banning assault weapons, or at the least their accessories can accomplish that. Banning certain modifications can accomplish that. Setting limitations to magazine sizes can accomplish that.

We can accomplish that and still leave recreational gun usage alone. Hunters don't need crazy tactical mods, don't need assault rifles, don't need 40+ bullet a mag. All legitimate uses for firearms would be left untouched with any of the above restrictions yet it's still fought tooth and nail, why? The best answer you can give is muh freedoms, when we have no problem restricting freedoms in a myriad of other issues around the country and globe. Guns should not be an exemption to this.

It's all working around the margins unless we repeal or get judges to reinterpret the 2nd amendment. I know that you are feeling like this could jeopardize your AR-15 hobby, but assault weapons bans, like waiting periods, gun registration, and other actions taken by states are all "targeting the wrong issue" too.

And of course an assault weapons ban won't actually jeopardize your AR-15 hobby, because your gun would be grandfathered in. They aren't going to actually come for your possessions (and you know that).

That includes children as young as 5 years old. That might seem like a low number to you but it's pretty high to me for something no other country in the world deals with like we do. And that's only AR-15? Cause I've already said in some thread or other that I don't want an ar-15 ban, I want an assault rifle ban. Very important difference. I'd settle for assault rifle regulation, but I can't start there because relublicans will move it to the right before it's all said and done. Gotta start way left so it ends somewhere in the middle.

And just to add, I already said I'd settle for regulation the likes of which FNH already proposed, but the NRA and republicans are not in favor of those common sense regulations. They've proven this time and again with their votes, not their words. If all gun toting republicans were as reasonable as FNH then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I still remember the outrage during Sandy Hook and nothing of consequence happening in regards to gun control. Highly doubt anything is going to happen this time around with a Republican controlled government at every level.
