I do think a lot of them will flake out come March 24th, even with their funding because there are other groups looking to be funded and their gofundme’s aren’t doing so hot.

But you see these news articles on those same sights saying how many sponsors are pulling out of the nra. You see the insane levels of popularity behind some form of gun regulation. The only thing in the way is the literal majority of the Republican party. I'm not saying this march is the start to Congress passing complete gun reform, but this march is being put on to much support from the population and they are making lines in the sand that will absolutely have an effect on midterms. I don't know what you're expecting, but I'm expecting that dem wave to hit harder cause of kids like these. I'm dumb for believing dems can do it this time, but fuck look at how many more people are engaged in this game.

I can understand the cynicism, personally. A march and a few sponsors pulling from the NRA isn't exactly a threat to all these old guard republicans who've been doing what they do for decades now. Death and voting them out are only real eventual recourse, and the latter hinges heavily upon voting someone in who isn't just as bad. Or worse, people who do want to change things get voted in, but they still lack the collective power to do so.

Overall, the talking points really haven't changed much in the "what do we do" aspect. What's real is the kids and those who support them are literally sick of nothing happening with all this thoughts and prayers and now's not the time bullshit.

But no, let's keep pretending the way to prevent this is to ignore the behavior and focus exclusively on the object in hand when the behavior manifests.
More Guns = More Collateral Damage. A Steak knife can do damage and kill yes but this is the key factor: Someone with a knife cannot kill as many people before being taken down. In addition a knife is a melee weapon unlike a gun with range which can do FAR more damage in the same period.
US Gun Fatality Rate is nearly 3 times the next nearest state (canada).
Maniac Shooting up schools = US Phenomena because of excessive amounts of guns.

Seriously the problem is that the US has an unhealthy and in this case lethal obsession with guns and there's a serious issue with how they're used. No other western country has such an issue here because they have proper controls on firearms and keeping them out of unsafe hands. The biggest problem is any common sense measures that some would try to implement to try and keep these weapons out of those who shouldn't be near them is opposed by those (NRA idiots) who feel its their right to have a gun at all costs.

I'd be honest if I was living there myself I'd be pushing big time to get something real done. I believe the last time they actually did something about guns was like back in the '30's when mobs were shooting up the place. It's long past time something should be done like at the minimum keeping everything but manual pistols and shotguns tops out of the civilian populations hands. Long term if these kids want something meaningful to happen they would need to organise enough people to basically negate or overwhelm any area the NRA and their like have influence in. One thing I can see as a problem for politicians is those that want to act are hobbled by these groups who intentionally undermine and have them forced out.

Thank you for conceding my point that guns are simply a force multiplier and not the actual issue we need to be addressing if we want these tragedies to cease.

Machine guns, automatic weapons, bump stocks, military grade weapons. Basically weapons of mass slaughter. These shouldn't be in the civilian realm at all. There's no need for them. Argue all you want guns and their accessibility by unsuitable individuals are a major factor in these and the most deadly of them. There's no arguing around this because this is what come to.

    Fair point.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

That's the actual text on that 2nd ammendment from 1791. The only thing that concerns me here there seems to be alot of focus entirely on the 2nd half of this but rarely on the first half. A well regulated militia would mean there would be a requirement for some form of formal training would it not? You would think that would be interpreted as a way of at least filtering out unsuitable people from having guns.

The other thing is this was written back at a time when there was a threat of invasion from merry old England and the only arms were single shot rifles and pistols, not today with automatic weapons that some looney could easily wipe out hundreds of people before being taken down.

Whats funny is that looking up prohibition (18th amendment) they were able to negate this later on (21st amendment). You would think that something would've been done along similar lines by now to at least regulate or amend the 2nd amendment.

If you read DC vs. Heller when Scalia gets to the part about "well-regulated militia" he essentially mumbles while coughing loudly and then moves on.

I'd like to think that the founding fathers would also have reconsidered their wording if they knew the technological advancement of firearms would lead to people being able to shoot dozens of rounds per minute. We've come a long way from flintlocks and muzzleloaders.
I'd be honest if I was living there myself I'd be pushing big time to get something real done.
Really, this is the problem with the US being entirely too big. It's really difficult to feel enthusiastic about anything when anyone who may agree with you is hundreds of miles away. Or you're in an area where you're more of the minority and speaking out just gets you socially castrated.

Can honestly feel for ya's being stuck in such a situation. The size of the US would make it difficult. Ireland has a relatively low amount of gun deaths (there's still some from criminals but these are small rate things not mass shootings). Only others who can legally own a gun are a few small gun clubs (you can only have the weapon there on the range I believe you cant bring it home) and some farmer's who have legally owned shotguns/rifles for shooting dangerous wildlife threating their livestock. General population doesn't have weapons here. The only thing I can see that can actually solve the situation properly in the long run from what I'm looking at myself would realistically be the need for a new amendment.

Funny though it was a people's movement that led to the 18th ultimately being implimented in the first place and the widescale failure and crime rate's (mobster's) that ultimately led to its negation by the 21st.

Way I look at it it seems like the reverse could be needed to solve it (2nd ammendment's failures leading to excessive gun deaths requiring a new ammendment to supersede it). Just needs enough people to push it.

From reading around, apparently the interpretation of the 2A protecting individual rights to guns is somewhat recent (1960s) and it wasn't until 2008 that the Supreme Court agreed with that interpretation.

This is a pretty decent law review if you don't wanna tl;dr.

That is the endgame for a lot of these touchy-feely people, they just won't admit to it because it makes them look bad, which in turn makes them feel bad.

Imagine making 5 posts on a subject attacking the idea of banning guns but not proposing an alternative solution.
