Never mind the fact, if the US Government wanted to stop any insurgency, civilian firearms are going to be pretty useless against the drone strikes that the military/government would start with, followed by armored battalions to clean up the mess.

Having a heavily armed populace like we do would make military actions by the government against the people way, way fucking harder than they otherwise would be.

Sure, they could bomb a city into a parking lot if that was the goal, slaughtering millions of non-combatants in the process, but we barely even do that in, like Mosul.

So are you denying that "assault rifles" are their primary means of resistance?

If there is one group that actually needs the right to bear heavy duty weaponry to defend against government-sanctioned overreach/life threatening persecution in America today, it's African American men. A lot of people are all about "guns are the way we prevent government overreach" until they imagine concerned black folk monitoring routine police interactions for signs of impropriety while bearing their legally owned arms.

Meh, I read about that and I feel like this could just as easily go the other way with CNN releasing the altered emails to cover their asses. Unless we're looking at logs on their mail server it's just CNN's word against the family's.
