Or he's just never spent two seconds thinking about public policy, learning about the history of anything, or saying anything other than the first thing that came into his head.

We're talking about the guy who claimed he was never going to cut Medicaid and would get a great insurance plan that covers everybody. Nothing he says is a reflection of what he will attempt to bring to fruition. Hell, he even rejected a bill that would help the dreamers and build his wall, two things he has repeatedly said he wants to happen.

Suicides are counted in almost every one of these headline statistics on gun violence. They make up a fairly significant amount of what's constituted as "school shootings" as well.

I mean, it doesn't really discount any of the argument, but it is kind of shitty reporting.

Interesting local fact too: my city reports school shootings as not only on-campus violence (including suicides, gun violence, etc.) but also any shooting within a couple blocks of the school.

Just goes to show you can really make the numbers do whatever you want. It's more important to address the issue itself rather than use statistics to determine if you should be sad people are dying or not.
