Can't we all just agree that it is too broad of an amendment because the founding fathers had no conception what an automatic rifle, rocket launcher, or tank was?

Tell that to the gun nuts who insist that semi and automatic weapons existed before the bill of rights was even around, and that carrying two weapons = automatic weapons.

Yes I sadly had someone tell me this recently, and no it wasn't the same person who thinks the 2nd amendment should also include anti air and tank weapons so we can stand up to the government.

Having fun with guns in safe environments doesn't bug me, but the reality that things can go horribly long with live ammo involved is where I'll side with those that dictate their primary purpose is for killing. If marksmanship is more your thing, then I'd start looking into non-lethal ammo or alternative weaponry like paintball or airguns. Should the resultant argument be, "But it's not the same!" then all I can really ask is if it's about just hitting your target or decimating it.

Its the same. One of the basic rules of gun safety is never point your gun at something you don't intend to destroy.

Well, I'd also expect some griping about lost recoil, the sound of discharge, or even the smell of gunpowder. Things I posit that could be mechanically replicated while the weapon itself is safer to use for funsies.

Meanwhile, I'll just facepalm at that video with the factoids that swords somehow evolved into guns (slings and bows say sup) or really that it should just be okay that everyone has a gatling gun because that's TOTALLY what the founding fathers meant. And while I won't dismiss that people may have tinkered with their own firearms advancement at the time, or prior, these things weren't exactly mass produced or so freakin' easy to use.
