Far as I'm aware the NRA is not a lobbying giant through financial contributions but through the fact that their members are very engaged in the community and vote the association's interests almost universally.

Taking their cash flows out is not the answer for them. The best way to combat NRA fringe policies are to convince the members that the leadership of the NRA is acting crazy.

To extrapolate we NEED the NRA, or at least something similar to it, for many crucial programs. They pour priceless resources into things like gun education courses, training, police education, etc, etc.

It's like the antithesis of the Planned Parenthood argument where people scream to defund/destroy an organization because they disagree with like 5% of their operations.

Removing the power structure is key here in my opinion. I think the members should be deciding what the association things, not the association deciding what the members have to vote in favor of or against.

I doubt society needs the NRA advancing gun ownership best practices as much as society needs an easy/free place to go to get women health needs met. Totally a false equivalence imo.

You're picking the wrong part of the statement to analyze here, but there may be somewhat of a false equivalence in how the two would be addressed.

We don't need to throw out the leadership of PP for doing abortions, for example. We do need to throw out the NRA leadership for advancing toxic gun culture. However, the fact that people openly campaign to end both of these organizations because of a small percentage of both places operations is more the point I was trying to make

They do. I think in these kinds of cases you have to unfortunately manipulate the easily influenced masses.

If somebody sensible showed up in power and started telling them, essentially, the same thing many of the protesters are advocating for, but from an internal position of power, I think most of those people would suddenly find it a lot more agreeable than it was when somebody they didn't like was talking about it.

Not really knowing anything about the internal workings of the NRA, how feasible would it be to inundate them with more moderate/liberal gun owners and try to install more reasonable leadership?

What would that do? Do the members even vote on leadership? I imagine not.

That’s what I’m wondering. Are leaders voted on? Do they inherit the throne?

I have an amazon tumbler that is in all aspects totally identical to a YETI but cost me under $20.

I have used both. There is zero difference. In the amazon one I left ice and some tea at work in it, in the middle of summer, in view of sunlight, for FIVE DAYS and it was still completely frozen.

A cursory Google search gave me this on the NRA’s inner workings. Answer to my question- technically yes; likely no.

Nice. I have a Maker's Mark (Sam's Club) where the lid has a slider. I think it works better than Walmart's Ozark Trail version (we have 4) because the lid has an opening to drink out of. I have a coworker who has literally thousands of dollars in YETI stuff and it absolutely baffles me. Then again, she has bought two blutooth scales, the second one because she liked it more than the first which works perfectly fine.

My experience in retail has led me to believe many of the off brand products are very similar if not identical, but have a shorter life due to other quality concerns. They might work similar now, but 5 years from now? 10?

My off brand Tervis tumblers are almost all broken by now, but the name brand stuff is still kickin. I've had some of them for over 10 years. The Wal-Mart brand stuff? Never makes it past a year.

The Wal-Mart/Sam's Club brand is called Ozark Trails I believe. I've seen some comparison tests done against Yeti, and Yeti was better but extremely marginally. The one that sticks out to me was a Yeti cooler full of ice vs. an Ozark trails cooler full of ice. The Yeti cooler kept the ice for something like 96 hours, the Ozark Trails cooler kept the ice for 92 hours. Maybe not exact but something negligible like that. The Ozark Trails brand is MUCH cheaper though.

I got 4 Ozark Trails 30oz tumblers and a large canopy for the backyard for $45. Thought it was a good deal.
