Fair point, though I'd still say politicians being held accountable is the exception and not the rule.

Jesus fucking Christ that woman is retarded. That's not an example of parenting done right at all, that's an example of catastrophic failure in the realm of parenting.

    So uh

The new NRA president is going to be Iran-Contra mastermind and 3-time convicted felon (overturned on appeal) Oliver North.

    https://twitter.com/DanaBashCNN/stat...857305090?s=19

He also spent 20 million dollars on a Senate campaign in 1994, losing to a Virginia Democrat in a Republican wave year lol

NRA gas lighted a Dallas restaurant that had a message printed on their receipts about a share of sales going towards sensible gun reform. Cue the Yelp crashing and death threats on the restaurant and it's owners personally. NRA sure isn't doing much to change the perception that they aren't a bunch of gun nuts.

    https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...aws-judge-says

The two 19 yr olds that joined the NRA lawsuit as John & Jane Doe against Florida's new 21 age limit will not be allowed to remain anon if they want to proceed with the lawsuit. Originally the NRA didn't want to name anyone and just listed them as "NRA members."

"If it were entirely up to this Court, this Court would not hesitate to grant the NRA's motion," Walker wrote. "One need only look to the harassment suffered by some of the Parkland shooting survivors to appreciate the vitriol that has infected public discourse about the Second Amendment. And this Court has no doubt that the harassment goes both ways ... "

"But it's not entirely up to this Court," the judge explained. He's bound by precedent, he said, and precedent holds that pseudonyms can only be used in "exceptional" cases.

If the 19-year-olds were children, or the lawsuit involved extremely personal information, things would be different. But as it is, they can't sue anonymously, the judge wrote.

    Gun Permit study - https://europepmc.org/abstract/med/29785569
    Red Flag study - https://ps.psychiatryonline.org/doi/...i.ps.201700250

Gun permits are proven to reduce murder rates while CT's & IN's Red Flag law has shown a decrease in suicides.

"Requiring handgun purchasers to obtain a license prior to purchase was associated with a 14 percent reduction in firearm homicide," says Cassandra Crifasi, at the Center for Gun Policy and Research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

t's not clear why a license requirement reduces the firearms murder rate. Crifasi says it may be attributable in part to the fact that higher bureaucratic barriers in acquiring guns may reduce the number in circulation — which means fewer are available to be stolen from homes and cars.

But she says higher homicide rates in urban areas are also associated with a state's adoption of "stand-your-ground laws," which allow greater legal cover for people to defend themselves with firearms.
He's completed a new study of the effect of red flag laws in Connecticut and Indiana, two states that have had such laws on the books the longest.

"In Indiana, for example, there have been some years where 80 percent of all gun seizures have been due to a concern for suicide rather than homicide or domestic violence reasons," he said.

"In Indiana, after the enactment of the law [in 2005], we saw a 7.5 percent decrease in firearms suicides in the 10 years that followed," Kivisto said. "We didn't see any notable increase or decrease in non-firearms suicide."

He says the picture is more "nuanced" in Connecticut, which passed a red flag law in 1999. He says there was little effect in the first few years — just a 1.6 percent decrease in gun suicides — but he thinks that's because the law wasn't enforced much at first. After the Virginia Tech shootings of 2007, he says enforcement increased dramatically.

"And so when we looked at it from 2007 and beyond, [gun suicides] decreased by 13.7 percent," Kivisto said.

I certainly wouldn't want to be assaulted by a protractor. That sounds terrible
