    Metal detectors are useless.

A shooter coming from outside isn't going to stop to empty his pockets. Whoever's at the metal detector will just be the first person shot.

Also you don't know my life.

Also can't rule out students leaving a bag of weapons outside a window they know they can access and bring them in that way once past detectors. Shit will find a way in if one is crazy/desperate enough.

Guess we need to put metal bars on all the windows. Barbed wire fencing near any operable opening. Can't wait to send my kids to prison!

That’s why all these theme parks have had zero incidents.

You are all are speaking like an antivaxxer.

Just because something doesn’t work 100% of the time, doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing it.

And kids are continuing to get shot because the dems inability to do some alternate measure in the meantime just because they don’t see them as the “best” solution.

A Bandaid solution is still viable while waiting for the better solution to come to pass.

This is why I can’t stand the mindset of dems. They always say they want to help schools, but they don’t actually want to take any action to do so.

I want to help schools by making them places children want to attend and be enrapt by their studies and extracurriculars. I don't want them going to school with the anxiety of having to go through TSA processing and feeling like a criminal trapped within the institution's bomb-resistant walls.

    This is a dumb mindset.

"I can't stand Dems and their lack of wanting half-measures!" She cried, in the discussion started by the Democratic candidate who wants teachers to carry pepper spray. "I can't stand Dems reaction to this issue!" She says, when Republicans have only suggested adding more guns.

Theme parks have one entrance with no way around them. These are often wide with multiple guards stationed at them. It would be a harrowing task for someone to try and enter the park with a gun and not get taken out first. The only schools where this kind of security would be feasibly affordable are not likely to be ones that face shooters in the first place. This is to say nothing of university campuses.

I have no idea where you were trying to go with comparing this to being an antivaxxer and I don't care because that was a dumb thing to say.

Not to mention that in schools that already contribute to a prison pipeline system that this just makes it much easier for abusive power and coercive control that inevitably has the worst impact on socioeconomically disadvantaged students.

Do people not grasp metal detectors do NOT need to be run by TSA agents? You understand most HS have security who can use them as needed right?

My schools library back in the 90s had metal detectors (don’t ask, idk why that place in particular vs. the others). I never felt like I was walking into a prison.

You guys are being over dramatic that they create a prison-like feel.

Also I didn’t say I was against pepper spray. I would need more info on them before making that decision.

Gut reaction says it’s a much better answer than guns (which I 100% don’t want in case you missed it.)

Metal detectors in high school are mostly there as decoration to make the adults feel better in my experience. There is absolutely no way to get all of your students through one when you have thousands of kids all trying to make it to first period before the bell rings. And even if you were herding them through, you're going to stop and do bag checks each time a kid sets a detector off with something benign? Nah.

Imagine TSA queues except there's only one flight out of your airport and it has 2600 passengers. Shit ain't happening.

Pay attention to what they do, not what they say. Their goals will become apparent.

I mean the goal is to prevent shootings. They are trying to do that with the most logical and most scientifically probable method, by reducing access to guns.

Why should they give up and just accept useless compromises like metal detectors and clear backpacks in schools because the NRA has a vice grip on the balls of the GOP? There's a reason why we had voter registration drives at the March for Our Lives rallies.

Harvey Weinstein ultimately wasn’t the one enforcing the code of silence around his predations: It was all the agents and managers and friends and colleagues who warned actresses that he was too powerful to accuse. Once people stopped believing in his invulnerability, his destruction was as instantaneous as the middle school queen being made a pariah. Watch: As soon as the first N.R.A. A-rated congressman loses an election, other politicians’ deeply held convictions about Second Amendment rights will start rapidly evolving.

The students of Parkland are like veterans coming home from the bloody front of the N.R.A.’s de facto war on children. They’ve seen their friends, teachers and coaches gunned down in the halls. To them, powerful Washington lobbyists and United States senators suddenly look like what they are: cheesy TV spokesmodels for murder weapons. It has been inspiring and thrilling to watch furious, cleareyed teenagers shame and vilify gutless politicians and soul-dead lobbyists for their complicity in the murders of their friends. Last week Wayne LaPierre was reduced to gibbering like Gen. Jack D. Ripper in “Dr. Strangelove” about a “socialist” takeover and “hardening” our schools. You could see the whites all around his irises. That look is fear.

Nice to know some teachers are going full retard thinking a metal detector would have made a difference in the last high profile school shooting (Parkland, and it wouldn't have made a single bit of difference). Nice to know some teachers are going full retard when republicans own the house, Senate, presidency, and courts, but it's dems fault that laws aren't getting passed that can help address these shootings. Nice to know teachers are going full retard when every single national level dem is promoting or campaigning on gun reform, but somehow it's the dems who don't want to take action on this subject.

This is how it happens guys. You pop out a kid or two, see the guys in red are cutting taxes to give you more take home pay, and suddenly you think they're on your side taking action on the things that affect you. Never mind the decades of working against your interests when the boys in blue ties, while not always a perfect ally, are trying to do things to help you but you are quite literally too retarded to see it or properly assist them.

Quite infuriating and I hope to god my future children don't cause me to turn into that Ben Stiller character from that one character playing a character in a movie.
