I remember seeing a headline quote the PM I think right after the shooting says that their gun laws will change and I was just struck by, I dont know how to phrase it but I just thought, why can't it be like that everywhere.

Senate Judiciary Committee renews consideration for the Red Flag law that forcibly removes guns from people that the government deems at risk of harming themselves or others.
Bump Stock Ban Takes Effect As Gun Rights Groups Ask Supreme Court For Delay
Is there any news in the mainstream outlets about this? I feel like if this happened during the Obama era we'd have more outcry.
A bump stock ban is about the most measly conceivable crumb of possible gun control legislation. We'll still see new high scores and other massacres with dozens killed.
Although yeah, if we still had our feel-good black president, he might be ridiculed for it by those who enjoy and/or gain from his ridicule.
It's been covered and talked about greatly. On social media, the left is using it to meme shame the gun-loving right.

There is an update where the supreme court denied the appeals.
Gun rights groups had filed separate appeals to Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, requesting a temporary hold on the ban. Roberts denied one appeal earlier this week; Sotomayor referred hers to the full court, which denied it on Thursday, allowing the ban to proceed while challenges to it move through the courts.
The voter approved ban of large capacity magazines in California was struck down by a federal judge in San Diego.

https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/...329-story.html“California’s law prohibiting acquisition and possession of magazines able to hold any more than 10 rounds places a severe restriction on the core right of self-defense of the home such that it amounts to a destruction of the right and is unconstitutional under any level of scrutiny,” he wrote in an 86-page decision.
“The magazine ban arbitrarily selects 10 rounds as the magazine capacity over which possession is unlawful. … The ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds amounts to a prohibition on an entire class of ‘arms’ that is overwhelmingly chosen by American citizens for the lawful purpose of self-defense,” he ruled.
In the opening pages of the ruling, Benitez recounted three instances of home invasions. In two examples, women fired at the intruders but ran out of bullets. In a third case, a woman fired multiple rounds with a gun in one hand while she held a phone in the other to call police.
Benitez ended his ruling by harking back to the nation’s founding.
“This decision is a freedom calculus decided long ago by Colonists who cherished individual freedom more than the subservient security of a British ruler,” he wrote. “The freedom they fought for was not free of cost then, and it is not free now.”
Learn to aim, bitches.![]()
o hell yeah
What a fucking stupid decision. The solution to the problem of 'Women fired a lot of bullets and missed' is not more bullets, it's learning what the fuck to do with the gun instead of wildly spraying shit everywhere.
Continuation on the California extended magazine ban issue. The ruling also overturned the law from 2000 that banned the purchase of extended magazines. As a consequence, gun manufacturers from out of state have opened up the flood gates and started selling to customers in state. A stay on the ruling is in place. Those that purchased magazines prior to Friday 5pm are protected from prosecution.

Ohio House Republican Mike Turner has announced that he will seek a ban on military-style weapon sales to civilians, magazine limits, and he will endorse red flag legislation. He had a change of heart after his own daughter fled the Dayton attack.
“I strongly support the Second Amendment, but we must prevent mentally unstable people from terrorizing our communities with military style weapons. I will support legislation that prevents the sale of military style weapons to civilians, a magazine limit, and red flag legislation. The carnage these military style weapons are able to produce when available to the wrong people is intolerable.
We must pass red flag legislation to quickly identify people who are dangerous and remove their ability to harm others. Too often after mass shootings, we hear there were early warning signs that were ignored.
I believe these are necessary steps forward in protecting our country and a testament to American values, which include protecting human life.
I understand not every shooting can be prevented or stopped from these measures, but I do believe these steps are essential.
This weekend, a shooter wearing body armor opened fire in downtown Dayton with a weapon he had modified to be able to hold 100 rounds of ammunition. Dayton Police ran towards the shooter and neutralized him in less than thirty seconds, saving countless lives. In those few seconds, the shooter was able to murder nine people, injure at least 27, and deeply impact the entire community. If the police had not been present and able to instantly respond, the casualties would have been astronomical.
This tragedy must become a catalyst for a broader national conversation about what we can do to stop these mass shootings. I look forward to continuing this debate with my colleagues in Congress, as well as discussing these measures with the President during his trip to Dayton.”
