My roommate's wife called(yes my roommate is married and doesn't live with his wife, he's here for grad school) and said they got 4/5 plus powerball, so they just won $50,000. He is in shock. I honestly don't know if she is trolling or not but he is buying it completely so I hope it's true for them.

To update: Yes, they did win $50,000 and claimed it today. All my happiness for them and jealousy at once is overpowering me right now.

During water cooler talk at work before the drawing and people were talking about buying giant houses and private planes and stupid shit like that. Those things aren't for lottery winners that is for legit rich folks that have a continuous flow of income. You'd have to be straight up retarded to blow through that much in only 3 years. Though I guess you could always resell those things to get some of that back.

The temptation is definitely there... But any smart/sane person would just blow ~$1-$2mil in a house/cars, and in my case $100k worth of arcade machines for my own arcade room. Then give $1-$2 mil to my family for them to quit their jobs to live, and $1-$2mil to my wife's family for the same thing. And just to not be bored at home, i'll work 1-2 days a week at gamestop or something.

The rest is going to stay in my bank account nice, and safe to live til i die. That'll upkeep my kids, and their kids through a trust fund. At least that's in my dream world. I know it seems a lot easier than the reality of money hungry people, but at least i've always had this mindset on me for a good while.
