I am happy for Fitz, one of the real stand up dudes in the league.
I've probably asked this before, but is there a legit reason why OT rules are so convoluted? I think it's stupid as fuck one team doesn't even get a chance at possession should a TD be scored. Why not just play out another quarter.
I can't even fully process what I just witnessed. Those final few minutes of regulation, plus the coin flip and OT was sheer chaos.
Can't believe we even took it to OT. Cobb, Adams, Jones and Montgomery (the 1-4 receivers this season) combined for 3 targets and 0 catches. Abbrederis and Janis had 11 for 200 and 2 TDs. Crazy.
Also I'm never getting out of here. Palmer is srs hurt btw he can't throw at all
Also any nigga TH at TH ink PP21 ain't a beast is a fucking cclown
The fact that they were smart enough to decide both teams get possessions with just FGs made and left out touchdowns as apart of the rule just shows how dumb the rulemakers are lol
but then you can argue.. if you can't stop em from scoring a TD then RIP you anyway.
By TH e time I get home I wanna see a gif of Buchanon picking feast mode up
Don't see it up on reddit, but there is this one

So here's the deal:
The NFL's reasoning on not giving the other team a chance is two-fold. First, if you score a TD on your first drive, you were never in a "Must go for it on fourth down" mode. You don't know what you need to beat yet, and so you have to play it safer on 3rd downs than your opposition will; it creates an imbalance. The second reason is that the NFL views a touchdown as an absolute win or an absolute failure, where a field goal is at least a partial win by the defense. It was unsatisfying on a "football morals" level to allow a team that partially won a contest to lose a game on that partial win.
While the first part breaks down in the case of Field Goals (the opposing team still must go for fourth downs), the issue isn't quite as clear, because just how much of the field do they need to do that for? Pretty much, not all of it, and the defense is still, in the end, in a place where a partial win is a partial win, and the opposition reverts to 3 down territory.
Equal opportunities, therefore, aren't equal. The second team actually has a relatively large advantage over the first team-- and the second team already has some advantage in the form of knowing what they need to win or tie. This is mitigated by the first offense having a higher likelihood of scoring a TD on the first drive than the first defense.
They didn't want to deprive a defensive win (a punt or a turnover), from being meaningless, and they didn't want a defense that flat out gets beat to be rewarded. It's a pretty good middle ground all things considered.
Yes the new OT rules pwn the old ones but college is still better. I think they should do college rules but every round remove one player until it's like 6 on 6
I hate to say I did, but I did.
They ran it out of a run formation with Fitz in motion, they've been setting that play up all year with all the run blocking and screens that have come out of that formation and just saving it for a special moment. As soon as Fitz went in motion I knew they weren't running their kick out zone and he'd get a shovel or toss and run behind the zone.
Also the only thing I thought on fitz huge catch and run was how pro he was because he totally juked fucking everyone by running to the sideline, half the defense stopped pursuit because it makes sense to get out of bounds, that's what receivers do. then he just flipped back while all of GB was being lazy.
