Already getting mine back Friday
Already getting mine back Friday
We had 2 years where we barely got anything back from the feds and got raped by California. Due to how much more money I made compared to Astylla, her filing as Married even with zero deductions was not having enough money being taken out for taxes. Like state deductions for an 80 hour pay period was like 15 bucks out of her check. Had to switch her to have her deductions as married but at single rate, and I had to change my state from two deductions to zero.
Need some help with tax filing.
I've always filed our taxes in the past, and I don't know what happened this year. My hubby has a 1099G form I have to input, and I am unsure of what to do.
I always use HRBlock and it only asks for the following info:
State or Payer Name
Payer State
Refund Amount (Box 2)
There is no number in the refund amount on our form. What I do have is the Unemployement Compensation (7,650) and Federal Income Tax Withheld (495).
So do I file it with $0 or should one of those go in there?
It's weird because I have had to do a 1099G in the past, but never ran into this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Yes. Thank you for that in-depth and knowledgeable response.
As I said above this is the first time I ran into this issue. Filled with turbotax to see the difference. Was able to fill it out just fine there. Only thing I can guess is that we didn't have taxes taken out of hubby's EDD which is uncommon. Turbotax had the option to put it in, H&RBlock did not. I have learned over the years that sometimes they block certain features unless you pay for the higher versions. It could be that's why.
Means we lost like $500 on the refund, but at least it means I was able to file correctly.
$2700 back for myself, and $1200 for the gf. Too bad it's already spent on bills we want to stop accruing interest on. We might have some left over for a Disney weekend or something, here's hoping.
Filed pretty hefty losses from the business the last 2 years, but still owe $1800 for last year. And we have to raise monthly withholding by $600/mo to not owe a shitload more next year. FML. So much for that promotion.
HR Block sucks apparently. I have a W2 from a summer gig for a school district and it wasn't Social Security taxable income, so those boxes are blank. I click on the W2 form that is for government employees exempt from SS tax but are taxed for Medicare and it won't late me save the form without filling in the boxes for Social Security, which are blank on the W2. Will have to do Turbo Tax this year I think.
Just dropped 1200 on the IRS. I need a drink. =/
Yeah, go with turbo. It seems right now both fed and state are free through them.
Ultimately getting $2400 back. And now I have until the end of April to decide if that money goes into savings, bills, or three annual passes (daughter is now too old to sneak in for free. ;_![]()
And my accountant charged me $1800. FML
1st time i've ever had to pay in (Besides local tax). No clue why, as i tell them to take out as much as needed, don't put dependents or anything... and even had 150 a check taken out. Still had to pay in another 900...... I had three tax people check it because i didn't understand why (I normally turbotax, but took it to HR and a local tax guy because i thought i was fucking up, which turns out i wasn't..). They just told me to increase the amount they take out per check.
But i'm getting 7 dollars back from the state.... so i have that going for me.
Getting back 4400 from fed and 500 from state. Last year I got 8900 from fed and 900 from state. Decent amount but still sucks compared to last year :/
Wtf dude. Tell the gubment to take less money from you.
getting extra $$ back through obamacare
Alright, it's the night before tax day and I can't file one of my sets of taxes electronically (thanks for that, Nebraska). Anyway, that means it's time for my annual night of "how does the post office work?" I've got a guess about how many stamps I should use, but I figure I'll post here in case someone can correct me.
Bottom line is that I have a shitton of stamps and one manila envelope (~8.5/11) that probably qualifies as a "large envelope or flats." What's really getting me is that my wife has the kitchen scale and thus I can't use their price list to guess how many stamps I should put on it. Nine sheets of paper will be sent (plus envelope), so I'm guessing it's around 2oz, which would be $1.15. However, it'd suck if my attempt to send it didn't work, so I'm considering just sticking ~3 forever stamps on and being safe up to 3oz. What say ye, BG?
Is spending 40 cents worth the price you're going to pay for the penalty if it doesn't make it there on time?
