Just a note to take -ga level spells if you have really good mage gear. Firaja/thundaja were doing 2k+ per cast to the sphere and would have killed it early if I hadn't switched to -gas. Otherwise a very easy fight.

Mastered it once I realized healer was a wasted slot, also used ice instead of water by accident and didn't get the medals from it lol.

Just as a PSA, it seems from eyeballing the medal totals that the revised medal parameters from the Gigas event does not apply to the Nightmare dungeons yet (or possibly at all?).

Seeing standard 3 medals lost from previous ultimates for Steamcleaner and Living Flame.

Yeah I noticed that too was really weird. Thought I did bad.

It's probably due to Gigas coming after Nightmare in Japan. I guess well have to wait until Whm Abyss to find out for sure if it applies or not.

Mastered, but Tyro ate a fire to the face at the very end and I killed the orb. Survived a 4 charge blast though, only did 2k damage.

Got it down to 20% then ate some nightmare thunderjas and went down the line one shoting my team

I didn't do it but if you have stormlance grimoire for the mana spear holy crap it just rapes this fight. 4* 9999 when it counters on ultima.

My set up with MG8 as my RW.

First major thing i noticed which was kind of funny. Dont take meteor just dont lol he counters it with death which was pretty funny. If you feel like your in a rush to kill the mana spear valefor makes it do 9999 to its self then 5k to ultima. I didn't really read any guides before hand but first time i was casting to much water and ice making him heal me. Fire and thunder are the way to go when damaging the spear. Like i said above SLG just kills it so fast. Is that the only multi hit thunder we have?

Rinoa has multi-hit thunder too.

Lulu's default is double thunder, doubt it would cause the full 9999 to ultima though.

Edit: should note that I didn't get a full SB gauge on anyone, so if you want to do a multi-hit SB I'd recommend taking mako might, knight's charge, etc.

I didn't even get SB charged with Ace Striker on. You should definitely run Mako Might if you want to use a SB.

Man I'm feeling that urge to craft Ultima when we get the rest of the crystals needed. 2x hits of non-elemental damage is hard to pass up considering how ridiculously powerful my mage team is.

I'll rethink it if I pull Platinum Sword, but I'm leaning towards it (or Meltdown in like, 2 years).

Anybody see anything glaring that I should change? I do have Lightning's SSB which is why she's included. I know a few people said they didn't get to use SBs even with Ace Striker, but I figure Ace Striker + Lifesiphon for the first 20% should get me a good amount of charge + can follow up with Thundaga Strike.

To Ultima? Umm you need to have a Carby/Reflect if you're using a non-BLM. Cast's death if you hit with anything not black magic. Hence the Ninja strat requiring Keeper for Carby.

Drop blizz on Rinoa and give her Carbuncle, unless you want mass extinction every time you AoE.

I used orthros to down sphere near 30%, if you hone it can use again on phase 3, will do nice damage on ultima. Not a hard fight if you time well your zerg on last phase.

If you wanna use Crushing Blow you need to keep Lightning on hold with Dr. Mog or Mako Might. Her damage will be terrible on Ultima (on top of triggering Death counters) and I'm not sure if she's gonna be of much help on the Mana Sphere either other than her SB.
