Green Arrow/Robbinhood Owl is... interesting. Sea lion still has clown nose so hard pass. And it's pretty hard to say the cat will be anything but Fire/Fighting with that concept art. Aside from the Meme culture around fire/fighting starters why are people so adamant against it? Just curious since it doesn't bother me the way it seems to bother the whole of the internet.

Personally I'm someone who likes the general aesthetics of fire types (they have always been my favorite type) but I don't care for fighting types. Generally when a pokemon is mixed with fighting type it stops being cute/cool and starts looking dumb or silly. That's why I prefer my fire types pure, or mixed with something besides fighting. Fire/fighting is not a terrible typing but it gets boring and I definitely don't prefer it.

For me it's more that this will now be gens 3/4/5/7 that have had fire/fighting starters. Water and grass have at least had some variation on final typing.

Yeah, I just want some variety. I was overjoyed with Infernape, as I didn't like the design of Blaziken at all (I chose Sceptile that gen, though, being the best starter ever) and I wanted to revisit that type combination with a design I liked. But when the pattern repeated yet again, it felt really boring. And if it repeats again, specially with such a Poochie design for the final form... No, just no.

I like Rowlett Hood, even Poplio redeems itself with that final evo, but dear god no for Litten's punching fire pussy thing.

If these are real I lost all love for Litten and would pick Poplio over it...

I have a feeling Litten will end up Fire/Dark and Poplio Water/Fairy.

Still going Rowlet now if that design is legit.

I'm holding out hope that even if that is the final Litten evo, that its typing is subversive like Fire/Dark or something. Which is still not great but at least it's not /Fighting AGAIN. And I say this as a staunch lover of pre-Speed Boost Blaziken.

It was cool with Blaziken. It was tolerable with Infernape. By Emboar it's like "fuck, enough already".

Also it's disappointing to have the exact same typing for literally half of your starters of a given type. Others have had a lot of diversity.

Grass has had: Grass/Poison, pure Grass x3 (one having a /Dragon mega), Grass/Ground, and Grass/Fighting.
Water has had: pure Water x3, Water/Dark, Water/Ground, and Water/Steel
Fire has had: Fire/Flying (with a /Dragon mega), Fire/Fighting x3, Fire/Psychic, and pure Fire.

While it can be said Fire is the more diverse of the 3 starter types, that one of its non-pures is the same thing 3 times is just kind of boring. Especially when Infernape and Emboar both have the exact fucking same design aesthetic. It's just boring, man. It's why I've personally been leaning more towards the Water and Grass starters as of late.

As an aside... so my Pokemon experience has been kind of muddled for the last few generations. I was really active in gen4 (played a lot of the Wii one online random matches) so the bulk of my collection is in HG/D/P. I bought japanese version of Black because I couldn't wait, but in the end I never got another gen5 game. Then I picked up Y later on but I also got burned out on that after beating it and been letting my sibling use the 3ds for Animal Crossing for the past like 2 years or so lol.

So if I wanted to bring my 4th gen collection up to 6th gen, could I do it solely with what I have? Or rather, can I import from JP 5th to English 6th? I have a DS lite, original DS (which is what can play the JP Black), and 1 3DS.

e: I wouldn't actually be too miffed about starting my collection over outside of sentimentality, if it's true you can get basically everything with just XYORAS. My trained guys all had lackluster IVs anyways so I'd only lose out on some event stuff and maybe legendaries. If it's also getting easier and easier to train I'm basically better off starting over. I just miss Slugmom (Magcargo) my old hatcher but Talonflame is already better because fly.

XYORAS will get you everything but the mythical stuff (mew, celebi, etc). Training/breeding/everything is much easier. If your main concern is legendaries, then ORAS is the way to go, as you'll get everything but the bird trio and mewtwo.

Been reading that apparently the Rowlet evolution is called Arrowl and is Grass/Dark :O which could be pretty cool, and would that likely mean that Fire/Dark is off that table for Litten?

Edit - reading the Serebii.net forums people are speculating that based on a coro coro scan from earlier that the starters as well as Rockruff may actually have two different final evolutions, they'd share the same pokedex entry number but would be akin to different forms of the same pokemon, just like the new Ninetails Sandslash and Exeggutor, and I would TOTES be ok with that :O

But seriously, if they follow the pattern from x/y, then we're in for grass/dark, water/psychic, and fire/fighting. Which I can totally see happening based on the concept art.

It wouldn't be the first thing with wings or hovering off the ground that still gets hit by Earthquake.

I'm thinking the 3rd stage evolutions for each starter will have seperate typing/move sets and slightly different appearance based on day/night evolution, also it seems that Rockruff may evolve to have different typings based on which island you evolve it at, apparently it learns the move Howl, and you leave it overnight at a cliff on one of the four islands to Howl at and when you go pick it up it's evolved into whatever typing is represented by the island, Rock/Dark, Rock/Fairy, Rock/Fighting and Rock/Psychic are apparently it.

I swear the more I see of this game the more it seems like a shakeup to the pokemon formula, and I think I like it.
