From what I recall reading the only way to get the regular forms is through trading, so presumably all the ones we find there will be those forms only.

Not really sure how to speculate on breeding for Alolan forms though. Probably either random, or needs a non-native parent or Ditto to have a chance, or there's a form switcher somewhere. I can't imagine it's completely random as that'd be a backstep on making competitive breeding easier as they've been doing. Unless there's a hold item or special breeding that locks Alolan or non-Alolan.

But uh, wow wtf surfing Raichu. Hope they bump up older gen 'mon stats again or something otherwise that's kind of pointless if cool!

e: Actually I only just now realized all Alolan forms so far are gen1 Pokemon. So maybe this is a "rebalance" so to speak.

They stated before that the only way to get non-Alolan forms into Sun/Moon is through trading with the other Gens, so that means only the Alolan forms will be found in Sun/Moon and breeding with them will yield the same forms, the exception is probably if you use a female original form for breeding more then likely.

^ So that would mean for the purposes of gameplay that the Alolan forms are basically entirely different Pokemon. Like I guess the closest parallel would be Nidoran M/F, but occupying the same national dex number.

Which I can get behind, but it's certainly going to be a little confusing for some.

e: Now here's the weird question: If you have say Icetails, would you be able to search for Ninetails on GTS? If so, HOW FILTER. If not, WHY NOT.

Yah, the Dex's have contained a "Form" category for a few generations now, good to see them actually getting uses outside of the occasional M/F difference.

These forms are starting to get stupid, especially since so far it just gen 1 pandering. imo gen 1 got enough attention last gen in kalos.

It's mostly just gen1 pandering I think because it's the "oldest" gen in terms of how recent its last dedicated game was. HG/SS was 4thgen but FR/LG is still way back in 3rd. Not counting eshop R/B/Y.

Though if anything I feel like 4th gen is the most neglected now. Not quite power creep enough for the new guys in 5th and 6th, not quite old enough for another remake. They have a fair number of megas from 4th but a lot of the heavy hitters back in D/P/Pt just aren't a thing anymore. I'm actually wondering if they're going to do a remake of either 1st or 4th gen in this 7th gen or if we're looking at only new games since the whole original point of FR/LG/HG/SS was just because 1st/2nd gen weren't compatible with 3rd onward. (edit: Actually, I guess it's only a few in 4th that suffer. A quick glance through Smogon and a lot of what was OU in 4th's population is still OU in 6th. It's just outclassed stuff like Azelf, Electivire, Infernape etc)

Speaking of power creep, gen1 suffers the most from it. It's hard to name things that aren't simply outclassed by something in a later gen. It's a wonder that staples like Zapdos and Gengar are still relevant, much less some of the better gen1 megas like CharizardX.
