update on this; learned Psybeam at 21, thank god. Picked up Charge Beam later too and added that, so Kadabra is stronk.

Just a heads up to people who were hoping to use Vikavolt or Alolan Marowak.

Apparently Alolan Marowak learns it's signature Shadow Bone move the level before it evolves into Marowak which means you can't actually learn it until you reach the Move Relearner at the very end of the game right before the pokemon league. Additionally it doesn't learn a fire move until 53 and never learns a Ghost move through leveling. Vikavolt can't be evolved until the very last island because you need the Electric Rock environment thing to evolve it.

Also if you were planning on using Alolan Raichu as your Psychic mon (like I wanted to) it doesn't learn any Psychic moves unless you give it a TM or use the Move Relearner as well.

I'm actively trying to not overuse my starter and give new stuff a shot, to kind of pleasant results. I will probably bench the Munchlax though since I don't want to deal with trying to keep Happy Hour while actually using it. So far I like the selection and didn't think I'd use these at all.

Also word flying around is that status (burn/para etc) will prevent wild pokemon from SOS'ing. Doesn't work on totems though.

Couldn't you simply get a Cubone from S/M and evolve at night to get Marowak?

Cubone evolves to Marowak at level 28. Marowak learns Shadow Bone at 27.

You may see the problem here, lol. You just have to take it to the move relearner.

You can breed pretty early actually. The nursery is one of the first things you run into on the 2nd island, and you can breed pokemon there right after that. Thankfully it no longer levels your pokemon or teaches them moves! No more overwritten egg moves yaay.

I agree, the new pokemon are so pleasant and fun, even the ones I didn't think I'd like. I have an Alola Persian (that took FOREVER to evolve, seriously that cat wants to be pampered big time) and I really enjoyed messing around with it. Cutiefly is kind of a beast at low levels, too, and also awfully cute. A thing I've been learning in the past few months is that pokemon you think you wouldn't care too much for are really fun to use when you see all their nuanced animations and the way they do certain moves.

So do HMs have any purpose now other than if the moves themselves are useful in battle? Every aspect that HMs normally occupied are taken up by the rideable pokemon now with Tauros being Rock Smash and Lapras being Surf. I assume eventually we'll get a Machamp or something for Strength (ran into a large boulder that mentioned being moved by a strong pokemon) and an NPC mentioned being able to Fly on a Charizard after beating one of the captains on the 2nd island.

Hmm.. I might stop and try and breed a shiny for a bit then if it's that early on. I'm sure egg groups have been posted and I can find a suitable match as Ditto are further in the game, right? There are already perfect IV shiny mons popping up on Ebay, it's funny. I only know because I follow a few searches for mon stuff.

Speaking of mon merch.. does anyone actually collect as well? It's been raining Sun/Moon stuff this month and my no income ass has spent over 100$ on plush..... I couldn't resist the Alola Vulpixes.. Vulpi? Vulpixis?

There's also a TOMY one that seems to be fuzzy coming out, but I didn't see any one on the PKMNCollectors community post about doing pick up for that... yet. Which might be a good thing for me. I have someone picking me up those two Alolapix, this chubby monstrosity that was too adorable to pass up, another Cyndaquil (All Star), and the Banpresto Litten. Had I known about all the Alolapix incomng, I probably would have held off on the others. All the Litten plush are looking alike. They're all sitting... same pose.. same face...

HMs don't exist anymore, they've been replaced by TM versions of the same moves.

If you haven't already get a Toucannon. Thing is a beast and it gets Beak Blast as soon as it evolves. A single Beak Blast with Sharp Beak held item + the Burn from Lurantis hitting me basically one shot it.

SOS Chaining (where pokemon call for help) increases the shiny chance as the chain gets higher. False Swipe + Adrenaline Orb pretty much guarantees it will call for help every turn though the chance of something showing up is still like 60%~. I did this while trying to get a Female Salandit to evolve and ended up getting a Shiny male with it's Hidden Ability.
