Global event going on right now for the next 2 weeks, players catch a combined total of 100million pokemon. Reaching the goal gives 1k? festival coins for everyone. Lady at the right counter in the festival plaza castle will get you signed up, need to game sync yourself on https://3ds.pokemon-gl.com/ as well.

Also for egg-hatching, instead of running circles in the closed pen under the breeder lady, just waggle the stick slightly in direction of choice. As long as Tauros stays dashing it counts as steps and he only stops if he's going straight into a wall for more than half a second. You can also do this by running right into the breeder (between her and the support beam thing).

I can't seem to get anywhere with that stupid PGL thing. I made an account, log in and it just keeps taking me back to the main site and I'm no longer logged in. Log in again, hit the PGL.. get to the next step, get taken back to the main page and have to log back in again. It just keeps going back to the main page. How annoying. I finally got the code entry upon my THIRD log in. Took a few logins, but I got it registered and signed up, but it still keeps logging me out to the main page. =/

Anywho, almost have my team set up. Just need a Shiny Rowlet, Jangmo'o, and purple Oricorio. Got a Snow Warning Vulpix the other day and caught my Shiny Rockruff last night after over 2 hours of chaining. I was actually giving up when it showed up. I had a female that I was going to catch just for IV/Breeding and she kept successfully calling for help. Another female showed up, so I killed the first off to capture her... and she kept calling more helpers and the second one ended up being a Shiny. Female... but it was Shiny and had HA.

I really wish you could capture Pokemon even if there are more than one up.. the "you can't aim!!" thing is just silly. It's about as bad as the breeders being completely shocked at an egg just appearing out of nowhere. You'd think after 20 years of Pokemon they'd know where an egg comes from.

The only one of these that made sense were the two kids running the daycare at the battle resort in ORAS lol. I assume the adults were just saying that to you since your character is too young for them to have to explain all of that.

Considering I have yet to see an actual explanation for Hot Skitty on Wailord Action I honestly believe the daycare people truly don't know how they show up. I mean they know it's a thing that happens but the actual mechanics behind it might as well be borderline magic considering what's possible. I can't wait for Gen 8 when they introduce the Stork pokemon and all becomes clear.

Well, eggs aren't actually eggs. They're actually something like a cradle that houses a baby pokemon until it's ready to hatch.
At least, according to a guy on a rooftop in ORAS.

    Yeah, I don't know either.

Christ, Battle Tree/Royal don't fuck around this time around. Even the starting rank, opponents are fully evolved and EV'd. I thought I could at least weasel my way into a small bit of BP with ingame team to start breeding but this is not gonna work. I see why a lot of people just hinge on UBs and Tapus for their first Battle Whatever teams.

Koko + Xurkitree is the go to but you could also try Drizzle Pelipper + Araquanid Liquidation if you feel the alternative is cheesy. Honestly you should probably use Drizzle Pelipper even on a Koko team since it lets you use Thunder for 100% accuracy and Alolan Raichu is a monster with Surge Surfer. Really though Drizzle Pelipper is stupidly strong now with the buff they gave it so prepare to see it a lot.

On the opposite end of that spectrum you have Oranguru + Torkoal gaining steam.

e: Meloetta will be distributed over Gen6 Mystery Gift (Internet) later today until Dec 24th.

Why do people use Pelipper over Politoed for Drizzle?

Hurricane mostly. Although Pelipper does get a nice support movepool including Tailwind, Sky Drop, and Wide Guard as well as Roost I guess. Politoed's support seems to be limited to like, Encore.

Ok im tired of different answers on the Internet and I know you guys are right so I just want some clarification.

I just got my soothe bell and tauros, to raise happiness fast to evolve pichu and munchlax I have to run around on tauros on circles with bell equipped right? Do I want to use the charge or regular run? How long should I do this for?

Also I'll post my FC in a few Zealot getting ready for a cabinet guy to get here.

Tauros while charging takes more "steps" per step, so it's the best for this purpose. I dunno exactly how long it takes though as I built steps by just leaving the soothe bell on while leveling (where Pichu evolved around mid20).

Other friendship-building method is to teach it 2 TMs back and forth a bunch of times. Apparently there is also a small boost if you build friendship where you first met the pokemon. This isn't updated to gen7 but bulbapedia's gen6 friendship table probably applies for the most part, with the caveat that taking Tauros steps will probably get you the 128 steps for +2/1 within a matter of seconds.

Do note that you don't need to "go" anywhere while dashing. You can kind of waggle into a corner and as long as you stay dashing (you'll stop if you run into the same direction for more than a half second) you build steps.

For happiness, I ran around on Tauros in the city with the Happiness Checker NPC and would just charge around in circles in the northern part of the city where it is more open for a bit, and then go check the happiness at the NPC.

http://www.serebii.net/sunmoon/useful.shtml (If you don't know the Happiness Checker's location, too lazy to type out where she is lol).

edit: The 2 TM thing doesn't work, there are tons of news places saying it does, but it doesn't.

Oh, well shit. Never actually tried that way, my bad.

For much, much later on if you ever want to build friendship for a bunch of mons at once (or just want to do it passively while going other stuff), there's Isle Avue in Poke Pelago. Rank 1's rate is really awful though, but for example I'm hatching eggs in about 2 days at rank 2 with no pokebean effects.

I have all my islands maxed out and Rank 3 Isle Avue with Pokebeans maxs happiness from a fresh grumpy mon in a couple of hours. Not nearly as fast as just running around with a Soothe Bell but you can do it for 18 mon at a time and I didn't try it with Soothe Bell which could speed up the process. It also hatches eggs overnight 99% of the time so if you have a backlog and are tired of running circles with Tauros remember to shove them into the hot spring before taking a break/sleeping.

Edit: Also the Hot Springs has its own pseudo happiness checker when you click on them so you could theoretically check Happiness from anywhere.

Anyone that has been in Battle Whatever or in online fights see any trends that vary wildly from VGC 2015/2016?

I'm looking more at stuff like Toxapex and wondering if its the Ferrothorn + Amoongus staller threat it seems to be.

Poisonous Kings Shield + Merciless + Toxic + Recover + Stockpile seems just straight nasty, its typing is very strong, base stats are perfect for a wall, and it looks cool too.

While Merciless is really cool, seems like 90% of competitive (read: Smogon I guess) analyses prefer Regenerator on it. Main "problem" with Toxapex is that it can't do much other than Toxic or Scald things despite its bulk. A lot of people also feel Baneful Bunker is vastly inferior to just Toxic or Toxic Spikes but that'll depend on how much contact moves you're expecting to encounter I guess.

Broadly speaking, Alola Marowak (Lightningrod) is extremely popular because of Tapu Koko and whatever Electric buddies it's bringing (Xurkitree, A.Raichu, Drizzle buddies, etc) and Aloladex's lack of good fire types. Works well in Trick Room. Speaking of, Trick Room itself is pretty popular due to Aloladex's overall slowness, Oranguru being a great setter of it, and lack of widespread users of other speed control functions like Icy Wind or Tailwind and Paralyze's speed reduction nerf.

Misc other mentions: Drampa, Drought Torkoal + Chlorophyll After You Lilligant (+ Oranguru for a plan B), pretty much all Tapus and UBs, and to lesser extents Mimikyu, Minior, Ribombee, Araquanid, Mudsdale, and Golisopod.

Bit long but this is the powerpoint-ish version of what one youtube VGCer thinks of '17. I echoed a bit of it above.

Might as well just build a whole team around countering this thing.
