Not sure if it was posted here but there is another movie in the works in addition to the start of season 7. Can't wait to watch season 7. I rewatched the rest of the series in anticipation of season 7 starting.
Probably 15-20 chapters left at the rate it's going.
Still wild to me they introduced this highschool slice of life portion of the Hero Academy only to shotgun the entire series in the "first year" lol. Some might call that a positive though.
Can't really see them continuing this series either, spin off or not, like AFO is such an unthinkably overpowered god of a villain nothing past him will seem like a threat lol.
loosely related but I feel like a few series recently kinda rush their plot. not necessarily a bad thing, people can only read so many One Pieces etc, but there have been a couple that feel like 'they could have done more with this' and idk if it was fear of cancellation, not wanting to work on the same thing for so long or what. Demon Slayer felt like it fairly quickly rushed to the end, and I started reading Kaiju no. 8 and it feels like it might be close to being over (I could be wrong obviously). despite jettisoning the school stuff, largely, MHA has still had a fairly drawn out amount of arcs and such.
MHA needs an abridged so fucking bad. It did NOT have to be this long I'm sorry.

I feel like One Piece, and Dragon Ball coming back, has subconsciously fucked with people's perception of how long a manga is normally serialized for. Some mangas do feel rushed for sure, but their length is more or less in line with a typical run. JJK is also getting near it's end and it's run is also relatively short, but the way the fights are going makes it feel rushed and drawn out at the same time.
oh for sure, like I'm saying shorter isn't always a bad thing, the issue with MHA is more the length of the arcs, not the number of them, imo. but a couple of the ones I mentioned feel like they have all of 3 or 4 arcs and then it's over and I think they'd have benefited from one or two more story beats. some of it is also just being used to longass shonen series I'm sure. and fair point about JJK, this final arc has been an odd one because like you said it feels buth rushed and overstuffed, lol.
I kinda feel like an anime lasting more than 100 episodes is overstaying its welcome, which you figure probably translates to 300-400 manga chapters if going the 18-20 page route. Yeah, stuff like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, and so on are more the exception than the norm, but they're also filled with significant amounts of filler when it comes to their anime adaptations.
Something like Shangrila Frontier was a nice romp with its 24ish episodes, and while I think it had a recap or two, it probably got to about chapter 60 for its manga. So the formula isn't always perfect, and sometimes you can artfully pad things. Knowing there are like 7 other colossi in the world to take out is hopefully something that doesn't get dragged too long, but that's kind of the "big goal" for the moment there.
Overall, I'm not going to complain if something is really fucking good, but when you start seeing production issues early on, it's going to feel like a slog. No one wants another SnK/AoT or JJK. Heard enough people bitch about Tokyo Ghoul to figure it probably didn't get a fair shake even though it didn't personally grab me.
I tried watching One Piece and holy cow the early seasons were so great and then it just becomes a slog. Brutally boring and repetitive and some of the villains became so annoying. I think there are some pacing issues with MHA but overall I really like the series and don't think like it is too long. It just jumps too far and the pacing should have been evened out more. They could have started at day 0 for Deku then did a jump to having him be pretty proficient with OFA like circa school festival when he fights gentle criminal and then grew his character from there until the finale. That would have allowed us to have one big jump in power and ability but then the rest of the time it would have been an even character growth.
Yah I'm not saying i wanted it dragged out or wanted it to be longer, I just kinda expected it to take place over the course of the 4 years of highschool. Like I expected time skips here or there, the characters aging, growing, stuff like that sprinkled into what we got. Like we covered a few decent arcs in this show, and all of it just happened in freshman year of highschool lol.
Yeah the high school portion of it took such a massive back seat to the whole story. I think the show would have been perfect if it was 4 seasons with each season representing 1 year of highschool. Then if they wanted to finish off the story they could have had one final season at the end that is the students first year as pro heros and leads up to the final battle with AFO.
Each of the initial four seasons should have focused more on school and training and learning and less on stuff outside of the school.
The Gentle Criminal arc I think was a great example of what I think it should have been more of.
I really dislike the direction it's gone in (the AFO thing). I think it could've gone great without it but retaining the OFA story but still have kept it interesting. I wished they went more along the MCU Civil War route and explored more of it like the quirk uses for society and used All Might's backstory and its problems instead and it would've still worked. I remember starting the series and was quite hooked well into Season 3 and 4.
Like even the opening of Season 7 was interesting because of the introduction of none Japan heroes.
As for MHA pacing, a lot of it was wasted on expanding the cast way too much with its school/training bits.
MHA’s pacing has been absolutely brutal and it wasn’t until recently, maybe a month or two ago, where shit finally felt like it was moving along.
Felt as if Horikoshi had no idea where to place certain battles with certain characters so he just slapped them together one after another in the final arc.
If anything he probably should’ve used the Deku vigilante arc to flesh certain characters out and give them their big moment. That arc just seems way too rushed for no reason.
The chapter today is sort of big, I'll spoiler tag and explain in gaming terms what happened in one line:
Spoiler: show
So now I think in like 3-6 chapters it'll wrap up
Season 7 is said to have 21 episodes too.
Yea, I said 15-20 chapters a couple days ago but looking like it's gonna wrap up next month.
