Yordano Ventura beaned Manny Machado last night with a blatantly intentional 99 mph fastball. Machado charged him and landed half a punch or so and there was a huge brawl

suspension pending but you really can't blame Machado for his reaction

Crazy that the puncher, who more often than not whifs completely or lands a super weak punch (Odor's flush connect is rare), gets suspended far more games than the person throwing a 90+ baseball at someone's body/head. That is by far the more dangerous act. And the punch/charging of the mound is a reaction to getting beaned, the pitcher being the aggressor/escalator.

I for one like holding pitchers accountable for throwing at people. Fuck a few of them up real good, they'll think twice about throwing at people. Only a matter of time before bats are returned fire.

AL pitchers dont have to fear retributon. The batter could have their bat "slip", but the likelyhood they could aim it isnt that great.

It's not that Ventura plunked him, it's that he threw way inside twice during the at-bat, and THEN plunked him. It was incredibly obviously deliberate.

throwing at someone is such a bitch move too. they can't retaliate until they run 60 feet and you have your entire team ready to jump them

Well atleast the league is coming down on Ventura, and 4 games for charging the mound seems low compared to the precedent, almost like a "look we have to give you something even if we understand why you did what you did", and his appeal will probably knock off an extra game or 2.

That means Ventura misses exactly 1 start though. Not much of a punishment. He'll appeal until his next start, then drop the appeal and start serving the 9 games, skipping 1 cycle of the rotation.

Maybe next strike theyll figure out a way to punish starting pitchers more efficiently.

Pitcher suspensions have always been retarded. I will never understand how they can count games served when the pitcher was never going to be in the game. If they were banned from all team facilities for the duration, that would be one thing, but they can still practice with the team, they just can't be in the building during the game.

He did the announcement for pillars at bat. He then went to the raptors game.

Jiminez gives up 5 runs and only records 1 out in the bottom of the 1st against the Jays and gets yanked. Sanchez gives up three homers (four on the day) and 5 runs in the top of the 5th while only recording 1 out and doesn't get pulled.

Jimenez got the L, but when he got taken out it was 5-0 Jays and the O's went on to score 9 runs. I was under the impression the L would go to the pitcher who let in the run that winds up being the winner (Givens), or does that not apply because the O's never tied the game at any point therefor the starter gets the L?

Pretty sure he got the L because he was pulled when the O's were behind and they never took the lead after he was removed.

But the W/L stat for pitchers is retarded so I freely admit I don't know all the rules associated with it.
