I was thinking this myself. If his start hadn't been pushed back, would he have been boating and doing whatever in the middle of the night? I'm sure that thought is weighing heavily on Don Mattingly's mind (or the pitching coach or whoever ultimately made the decision)

That sadly is straight up Mattingly's decision. Chasing the Mets, fringes of the wildcard, yeah save your best pitcher to open the series. I would have done the same.

I've been at a few amazing Jays games. I was at the 20-inning game in 2014, I was at the 19-inning game on Canada this year, and I was at Game 5 against the Rangers last year. Don't think anything will ever top that Rangers game.

Losing Benoit is a pretty big deal to us. Benoit/Grilli/Osuna are our 7/8/9th guys, no one else has been remotely reliable enough, except maybe Biagini who's been shitting the bed lately.

Pretty sure he said he tweaked his shoulder (the one he had surgically repaired) in the brawl and kept playing, then pulled himself after that at-bat for fear of making it worse.

I'm not saying he's lying, but is there any possibility that he actually tweaked it swinging, and is blaming the brawl because its the better PR thing to do for the Jays? Why blame yourself when you can blame a division rival who was throwing at your MVP in the first inning then plunked another batter after missing the first pitch despite the umps warning both benches?

btw, did you hear the Yanks announcers when that happened?

The whole thing was stupid but lol @Yankees commentary. Did Severino hit JD on purpose? I really doubt it. Can JD get pissed about it anyway? Yes. Should Happ have been ejected after hitting Headley? Probably. Did Severino need to throw at Justin Smoak (really? Of all people, Smoak?)? Definitely not. Should he have been ejected? Absolutely (after the first pitch fucking missed, don't let him try again what the fuck). Are the "warnings" handed out by umpires completely fucking meaningless? You bet your ass. Do Jays fans feel bad for the Yankees? Hell no, this exact same bullshit happened last year against ...Kansas? And Sanchez ended up being the only player ejected.
