The Boys will officially be back in town for a fourth season. Prime Video granted the superhero series an early renewal shortly after the third season premiere.

“Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more,” says showrunner Eric Kripke in a press release. “We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.”

I was a little disappointed with how obvious this whole episode played out was.

from the cliche “we’re about to retire from this line of work,” to A-Train ratting them out, and Soldier Boy alive might have been surprising if he hadn’t been marketed so heavily before hand. The only surprising thing was that it took so long for him to show up in person. Edgar stuff was interesting though, but let’s see how horrible a decision it was to use V on her daughter though. Cause no way that turns out well.

I felt very much the same, but it was still wildly entertaining to me.

there's def been a lot of flagrant death flags thrown out this season, and aye the massive Jensen Ackles marketing really gutted the entire what killed Soldier Boy plotline / reveal that they played surprisingly straight given fuckin nobody was gonna be taken by it. still satisfied with the plotting overall, The Boys has never been subtle or sophisticated but it is thoughtful and fun and a fine ride. good antidote to subversion fatigue. so many shows these days fixate on what the audience expects to happen and build themselves around undercutting it.

it kills me lately coming across some Amazon / Reddit / Youtube reviews. good chunk of the fanbase complaining about the show suddenly going woke, or conversely whining that it isn't political at all why is everyone reading into it so much it's just gross fun

good god how are people this stupid. you could argue it's a character study first and foremost but its themes are absolutely dominated by brutal, blatant satire of corporate culture, America's perception of itself vs reality, capital's ability to subsume its own critiques / pander to social justice while engaging in deep injustice, etc etc.

I'm pretty sure next week is gonna be a flashback episode since they've said episode 6 is specifically based on the Herogasm mini series.

That being said, the TV series has diverged so massively from the comics I have no idea where they intend to go with it. Just showing Black Noir's face is a massive massive change from the comics since who he is under the mask is a major plot point later on.

am interested to see where they go with Soldier Boy, taking a radically different approach there as well. Jensen Ackles doing work in limited screen-time

BN makes for a great wildcard now, though I doubt they’ll use him much plot wise. I mean, why does he keep following THE Homelander’s orders. Is he just completely gone inside or is there a little bit of human left, which has been implied in hilarious ways (hi2u bunny rabbit).

I feel like at some point he’s gonna jump sides, but fuck it either way. He’s subtly one of my favorites because he’s so god damn weird, and that’s saying something all things considered.

Noir is great, him crying like a child when he discovered the V stuff was mint as well as putting his hand on his heart for the dead whale. juxtaposed with his instances of brutality feels kinda like he may have brain damage from the injury. basically just an obedient murder-child.
