It definitely felt lacking compared to what we got in Herogasm.
    Spoiler: show
as much as the show kept trying to force down your throat that Soldier Boy was this really bad horrible asshole of a person, what they actually showed was nothing. We had Noir’s collection of past events told in cartoon form and we had his PTSD episodes, which, dude was tortured for decades. He hadn’t once tried to blow up a bunch of people on purpose.

Killing his old team for betraying him seemed pretty sensible given the situation. He didn’t betray anyone, even after finding out Honelander was his son. He was a little crass in the way a person who grew up in those times might be, except I don’t think he even showed a bit of sexism or racism.

They dangled this big epic fight, even have a taste of it earlier in the season, and then all we get is Maeve v Homelander (which stretched my suspension of disbelief in how long she managed to hold him off) and Butcher v Soldier Boy.

think you're forgetting the parts where he threw a car through MM's family, fire-hosed civil rights demonstrators, gunned down anti-war protestors at Kent State, stole a whole lot of valor, and was happy to murder his son (and grandson) primarily because he was a 'pussy'. he's not a Homelander-level psychopath but he was indeed a bad horrible asshole of a person.

also the amount of people bitching about Homelander v Maeve is killing me. i am dying. this isn't DBZ where power levels are known to a T, the only assessment we got was drunk Maeve's assumption she wouldn't last ten seconds with him, but that came from a sad self-hating alcoholic. when we've actually seen her in action we saw her overpower Black Noir (who has tooled both Kimiko and Starlight) and knock around Stormfront for a minute. she's strong as shit, Homelander himself said she was the second strongest supe around (at least until Soldier Boy showed up).

also x2 Homelander was clearly going easy on Maeve and actively trying to not engage with her / hurt her for the first half of their fight while she was going balls to the wall. dunno why people are trying to make it a thing. the second strongest supe in the world did solid (while still clearly losing) against the strongest one who was holding back. like this is what's messing with suspension of disbelief in this show lmao

I didn’t forget those things. They fell in the category of things we were told, but not shown. I’m not saying he wasn’t any of those things, but the Soldier Boy we were told about was far different than the Soldier Boy we were shown.

And to reclarify, for his team to turn on him the way they did, I’m sure the guy was a real terrible, horrible, no good person. But what we got on screen was a typical 1950s macho-man who happened to fire radiation beams when he hears Russian music.

Honestly what was SB's goal after he killed his team and homelander. Butcher going after him and everyone fighting SB vs just taking Ryan and leaving was stupid. The Boys is ending with all The Boys dying to kill Homelander and Exploder Eyes. I say half will get taken out by each.

This season finale was pretty pointless. SB is alive still and he'll definitely be back once Grace sees how much Homelander is ruining Ryan. Starlight little light show was a waste of special effects money. She's used her powers outside in broad day light and you're saying she's never charged up before. And that's all she could do was knock SB back for a second

There are a bunch of other shit plot points throughout this show and season.

Yeah starlight continues to be a disappointment. Aside from stealth missions into Vought, when Homelander is on vacation, she seems pretty mid as a supe.

ye that's fair, there's was definitely a show/tell discrepancy. all the worst things re Soldier Boy were only ever heard about which won't carry the same impact as, say, seeing firsthand Stormfront's villain turn. doesn't help that Jensen Ackles is one charismatic dude that they gave great one-liners, really needed more if they wanted the fanbase to turn against him (especially given this fanbase).

think that's the point. she's the girl next door supe who was selected to be America's sweetheart, not because she was some titan of combat. she's fighting back in the ways she can, and she's the moral conscience of the show, but she's not supposed to be especially powerful.

i mean she got tooled twice by Noir who was easily overpowered by Maeve and Homelander. she's not Deep-level useless but she's nowhere near the heavy hitters.

Just thinking about this season the writing was bad. Them trying to make Soldier Boy the big bad flopped when Homelander and Victoria Nunez are still running around.

He wanted revenge on supes that did him dirty. That's literally the whole point of why the boys are together. Their past is just as sketchy as his.

Meanwhile, Kimiko needlessly skinning innocent security guards alive and reveling in it, which the show treated that as a YOU GO GIRL moment. Not just knockout/injure/kill, but mutilate and dismember, so Frenchie could make the world's deadliest nerve gas, which ends up getting tossed into the streets of NYC. They needed to do this to... potentially protect vought employees that might have gotten caught in a Soldier Boy explosion, even at the cost of safe guarding Homelander, who is than in a position to casually kill the entire cast and anyone else unchecked.

The writing is so inconsistent/tone-deaf, that Soldier Boy ends up coming across as more reasonable than the protagonists in the end, despite the show trying to sell him as the villain of the season.

Right after they spent most of the season with Kimiko not wanting to be a 'monster'. Sure, get your powers back to defend Frenchy after you realize how bad you feel without superhuman strength, but maybe exercise a little tact?

I don't know, there's a lot of inconsistencies/etc in the show in general, but it's entertaining enough I can look past a lot of it.

The main thing from him this season was him just being a dumbass and firing most of the investigation crew no?

Other than that, only things I can recall that involved him was getting back into the 7 (blocking that other hero from being in) and becoming Homelander's bitch (wasn't he always?). The sexcapades with the octopus was hilarious, but other than that and his former lover spilling some personal beans (that'll probably get its payout next season), I can't recall much he did to affect overall plot.

He always has direct evidence of Homelander being batshit and always protects his Sir. He also literally did a treason for the dude, which is setting up a secret Vought supe to clearly become President. Dudes the grease that keeps the plot rolling lol

Oh right, he killed the political guy. How the frick did I forget that. Will say I got a laugh of the scene later where he's in his bedroom and the camera was just focused on the huge painting of him and Homelander.

read that it was the first ever script of one the co-writers of the episode which a) feels like a not great idea and b) explains some of the sloppiness and tonal inconsistencies re Kimiko etc

i don't mean to tell you how to conduct your affairs Kripks but prolly don't give the reins of your most important episode to date to someone that has literally never done this before

I’m pretty disappointed we didn’t get some interaction between Black Noir and Soldier Boy. Felt like a good part of the season was leading up to that but alas.
