Traveling to London Looking For Advice

    Hey everyone!

I'm planning on traveling to London over the summer and I've been looking at these two places currently http://accommodationlondonbridge.com/ and http://www.parkplaza.com/london-hote...e1-7tj/gbriver

    What I'm looking for is:
    -Great Night Life Area
    -Safe
    -Things to do
    -Not too pricey

If there is a better area than these two listed I'm all up for any ideas. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into and all my friends from the UK say London is rather overrated. However, I figured it'd be better to be in the heart of everything with more to do than away constantly commuting. If anyone knows anything they can add, like things to do. Or maybe going a bit more another way for a better price/experience I'm all game. Any insight people could give would be lovely! Thanks

Don't walk slow or stop when walking with/against lots of people (ex: in and out of tube areas), it's annoying, you cunt.

I'm assuming you are coming from the states. If so, the exchange rate is going to kill you. One US Dollar is about .70 pounds, so keep that in mind.

Exchange rate is the best it's been in 5 years so that's not bad news.

That being said, London is fucking expensive. Absurdly so.

If I'm there, it's usually for business so I stay near the City. Crowne Plaza or Hotel Indigo Tower Hill.

I would spend a few days max in London. Head to other cities. If you're there in the summer, Swansea, Dover, or anywhere in Scotland is pretty sweet.

The london subreddit (I lurk and post there) is a great info hub for some reading: https://www.reddit.com/r/london/wiki/index

Unfortunately I'm not a night life type person so I can't post anything about that. I'll just post random things here you may or may not find in the link above:

If you like table tennis (ping pong), and are with people: http://www.bouncepingpong.com/ (table tennis + drinking, reserved slots only though)
If you like darts, and are with people: http://flightclubdarts.com/ (darts + drinking. darts is done via some clever automated system that does all the counting for you, think like when you go bowling where you put in your name and stuff and everything is set up for you besides the ball)
Uh, eating in pitch black: http://london.danslenoir.com/

The shard (the big pointy building) but it's bookings only mainly, a bit expensive than the option below http://www.the-shard.com/viewing-gallery/

Alternatively, the Sky Garden (Cheap, good views, not as tall though): http://skygarden.london/ -- booking required for prime/peak periods

Then there's ye olde London Eye (ferris wheel)
Can get ship tours along the river too

Yeh... not much else. Does seem pretty boring now that I think about it lol

Ummm... M&M world? There's only 5 in the world! Unless you've been to the one in Las Vegas/New York/Orlando, it's in Piccadilly Circus/Leicester Square
Can ride the cable car at day or night (double value at night, it goes slower) for some good views http://www.emiratesairline.co.uk/
Can climb the O2 building (dome) too http://www.theo2.co.uk/do-more-at-the-o2/the-climbs
I found the London Dungeon https://www.thedungeons.com/london/en/ quite fun when taking some colleagues from India

Accodomodation wise, from the 2 listed. Park Plaza is less central (a bit souther), but still good transport links. London Bridge Accomodation is a bit closer. Either way you'll be hopping in the tube for exploration/travel so it's a little moot.

Some misc things I can think of is.... Lego Land!!! In Windsor (totally not in London, but a good 30-40 mins out). And also Harry Potter studios if you like that https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/

London is expensive because rent is probably averaging £600-800/month for a room to share with others or £1500-2000 for a 1 or 2 bedroom flat in the central areas, and only going down slightly as you go further out. Not to mention the prices for food if going out, and such...

Going to bed, this was just a mind dump before stepping in xD

Subways are sandwich merchants or underpasses.

A short walk from both of your options is the South Bank. There you can find, among other things ...
    • the Tate Modern, an excellent modern art gallery.
    • Shakespeare's Globe, a reconstruction of the 17th-century theatre. "Groundling" tickets (standing room) for £5.
    • the National Theatre. Big ugly concrete thing.
    • the Royal Festival Hall. Also big. Also ugly. Classical music.
    • the Golden Hinde, another late medieval reconstruction, this time of a ship.
    • Borough Market. All the food. Or at least all the pretentious stuff.
    • any amount of annoying buskers or people spray painted silver standing very still.

For night life, central London's expensive. Do you mean like, clubbing? There's any amount of that in central. Depends what you want, but from the cheesiest campest gay '70s disco to the most anodyne pop music in an anonymous venue the size of an Airbus hangar to an underground metal gig in the tiny basement of a pub that reeks of sweat and beer, London provides.

More stuff to do: the Tower of London's worth it. Buckingham Palace is okay. Shopping on Oxford Street isn't worth it. For some reason tourists are supposed to go to Madame Tussaud's. It's waxworks of celebrities. It's shit. London pubs are great if you find a good one, otherwise they're pricy and the beer is pass. Covent Garden is a tourist trap but a very pretty one. London is generally a safe city, but there's a generic warning about pickpockets in tourist areas that every city in the world gives. Eat a full English breakfast from a greasy spoon café. It is gloriously unhealthy and your arteries will not thank me.

That reminds me, someone stopped me as I was walking once, and I head earphones on. He said something "metro"

I gave him my newspaper lol (the free newspaper you can get in literally every station is "The Metro").

Only when he shook his head and asked in broken english did I realise he meant tube/underground station haha

I still don't know why you're going all the way to London to seek advice.

That place used to be Sega World back in 1995~1998. It's now just some shitty arcade. Still worth a look if you're nearby, but I would describe it as the lowest common denominator place. Note that I've not been in there, just maybe on the ground floor to pass by to the station.

Go to Namco (not too far from there) @ http://www.namcofunscape.com/ for arcade needs

Alternatively, for a theme park style arcade (pay an entry fee, all games free), go https://www.facebook.com/TheHeartOfGaming/ although I believe it has shut down temporarily for relocating, but the Facebook page suggests it's still there (I read about it earlier this year, it may be that I remember wrong and that this is a plan for the upcoming year). Might be worth tweeting them to ask, or posting on their facebook.

If your room comes with a fridge find a Sainsbury's or Telco"I think thats the other one" and stock up for run of the mill bs. Fst Food is terrible as is, but it was something else over there. Also, I found the tubs to be extra high, but that might have been because when my mother booked all the rooms she went with an older place. Tripped getting out one day and burned my ass on the radiator.
