The Batman (March 4, 2022)

I'm going to try and go see it this week. I wanted to see it day one but I still don't feel comfortable being crammed into a theater with mostly unvaxxed southerners.

Oh, and it had a decent weekend. No more competition for the next two weeks.

The thing that did it for me in this movie was how human they made Batman. He's not some unstoppable machine that doesn't experience fatigue and pain, and I feel like this movie portrayed that really well.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised to see that considering one of the trailers had him face tanking machine gun fire as he slowly walked forward.

Just saw it. Pretty damn fantastic.

The sound mixing really stood out because it didn't have the issues all the Nolan movies (even non Batman) do. Really wanna go see it again.

Caught this over the weekend, have to also agree it was fantastic.

I didn't agree with Pattinson at all when it was announced, and slowly grew to love it the more I saw of what they were doing with this. After watching it, he is on the same level as Keaton in my mind. Still not Bale, but who could be? Over the course of the movie there were times where I forgot Bale's Batman existed. Dark and gritty detective that channeled the right aspects of the character without needing to try and mimic Bale. Though Bale may have been a better Batman, Pattinson is in a much cleaner and more faithful Gotham in my mind.

Dano is the best Riddler without question. Not to drive the comparison to Nolan's every time (it is exceptionally difficult not to), but I got Ledger vibes from him when Dano just lost himself in character. I would like to see more Dano Riddler.

I think they underused Kravitz, sadly. It's like they didnt want her to be too Catwoman or too Selina Kyle, leaving her caught in the middle and kind of overshadowed by Pattinson and Dano.

I am neutral on the other players here (Alfred, Gordon, Penguin, etc). They were good. The makeup job on Colin Ferrell was fantastic. Though overall its difficult to not compare them to Caine, Oldman, and DeVito. Serkis, Wright, Ferrell did perfectly fine in being supportive and moving the plot along, and I certainly want to see more from Ferrell.

The Joker appearance is in my mind the touchiest subject. It would be really cool, if this is planned for a trilogy, is to not see Joker at all and just have him stay in the shadows and work with Riddler/whomever else they pull into this. But at some point a non-Ledger Joker is going be needed in a Batman film. Even in only short set-ups through The Batman, this version presented would work well to me; shadowy mastermind pulling strings through direct accomplices and groups of devout thugs throughout the city.

Maybe I am weird, but Affleck never felt like Batman to me. Pattinson is what has been missing since Bale.

i enjoyed the movie, is this the least amount of bruce wayne we've ever seen in a batman film? it felt like he had like...maybe 10 minutes of screen time as bruce and the rest was batman. not that im complaining. i really enjoy this batman theme too, also zoe kravitz is stupid gorgeous

People keep saying this but it's literally stated in the movie why Bruce doesn't appear that much.

The dick Tracy gives in this movie pulling in Batmans greatest detective in the world schtick was awesome. Him walking in the room ala adam west was pretty intense

I guess I'm gonna be the weird one to say this didn't do it for me. But I definitely understand the praise it's getting.
I guess I'm too programmed to enjoy the genre more with movies that take themselves a lot less seriously. This one was going so hard with its seriousness it almost felt caricature-ly.

i get that they wanted to play up the awkwardness of a year 2 batman but this dude was a literal goofball. he always seemed a step behind the riddler and his interactions with cat woman were awkward af. cedric diggory had more swag than pattionson's bruce wayne which is p bad if you ask me
