Not only that, but what's the point of not allowing local governments to set a higher minimum wage? It's like "hey, we're actively trying to keep you guys poor."
Most bills these days that bar local governments from enacting stuff seems to err on the side of "our state government is dumb and we want to drag our local governments down with us." Reminds me of all those state laws that bar local municipalities from building out their own fiber because AT&T and other telecoms lobbied hard for it.
This is the "small" government that the right is currently trying to push. It's so much bullshit form the message they're supposably selling that people are buying it's stupid.
Also, our wonderful governor got elected on "lower" taxes. Well, they actually implemented a regressive tax. Rich got huge cuts while the poorer you were the higher your taxes went. Wish we'd make a larger example on the national stage and actually show what the real republican message is...
Yeah, I really wish we would get rid of the parties and just have people run on their own merits and beliefs and let people decide on their own. I know it will never happen but the whole cut taxes and smaller government that people keep falling for is tiresome.
I just find it funny that those most screaming for smaller government also feel it's the governments job to dictate what a woman can do with her body.
They also advocate that local government knows best, and then turn around and prevent local governments from doing much.
Not everyone from the state is like thisFriend sent me this link today:

In 2 days they've raised over $20,000
or where two consenting adults can put their genitals!
the hard right is basically "let's steal as much as we can from the poor and the middle class and we'll get away with it because 'murica and jeebus." sadly, this works very well. no matter how hard you fuck your constituency or how obvious your thievery is it will never compare to the threat of eternal damnation.
...sorry, that got a bit off the rails didn't it?![]()
The smaller the government, the easier it is to create your own little fiefdom.
Why does it have to be only 2 people?

Millions already lost. I think something around 2000 jobs have been put on hold in NC so far. :/
seems like a good law
So happy that conservatives got what they finally wanted, and it's now blowing up in their face. Really hope this only gets worse over the next couple of months so we can always refer to these events when people talk about gay rights.
am i misunderstanding the bill
you have to use the bathroom of your legal sex
the fuck are you talking about lol
first one seems like a good thing for people not wanting a NC jury
second is shitty but not really that big of a deal all things considered. no one in NC was going to make their counties minimum wage 15$.
W/e sex is marked on your birth certificate. Also (Dantrag can maybe clarify here), any local ordinances/laws that don't match state level laws are invalidated. Parts of the law are pretty much unenforceable, and other parts make some local ordinances pointless (if the ordinance is legal, then it's already part of state law).
Not really how our justice system works... you're supposed to start at local government then work your way up... for both sides, those for and against rulings. Pretty sure no one wants to have to go straight to the federal level as that's quite a bit more complicated than going and filing a grievance at your local courthouse...
And while I don't disagree with you on the 2nd part that no one is going to got $15, but if Charlotte or Raleigh wanted to go $12, they can't. The point is that these Republicans are as far from "small government" as you get.
Not 100% sure to be honest. I think it depends on if there's something in place at state level. In most places you can get stricter than state level but not looser, I think...
It's actually a fairly small bill so fairly easy to skim over.
As far as which sex is used the bill text says biological but then defines that as what is on the birth certificate. Also it's not really just bathrooms it's any government/school "Multiple occupancy bathroom or changing facility." It specifically leaves outs like single person facilities and such.
The legal consistency portion that was more of a the state supersedes the local government similarly to how federal supersedes state. Though reading it it only seems to apply to that article (and other places if specified) not general state laws. That article specifies things like regulations over wages, hours, benefits etc and requirements that can be imposed on contractors.
As far as the employment discrimination part the basically just added biological to sex in the list and add in the the whole this is solely a state right.
As far as the suing thing it doesn't say you can't sue for discrimination. Looks like it's just amending it to say you can't "bring any civil action based upon the public policy expressed herein(the article)."
Also some stuff about how public goods and services are for everyone and you can't discriminate based on standard lists adding in biological sex. And again being a state right
