So like, I have a zotac gtx 1070 how much do you guys think its worth? Very light use, the most it was strained for the past year has been the fiance playing Sims 4 at max lol.

Also, can I play at 4k/60fps for a reasonable price yet? Whats that Radeon 7 card look like? I'd love to buy amd just cause, but those rtx look so good too but apparently you still can't do 4k/60fps with Ray tracing? I haven't studied gpus in awhile, halp me bg

The 10700k is $350 right now at Microcenter. That's the top end of the mid tier and will allow you to go with a RTX 2080 Super w/o bottleneck.

I'm not sure how you rate the trade off between Intel's edge in straight gaming vs. the extra cores for Ryzen for video editing

I'm thinking of getting a new Laptop for myself but really have no idea what to look for in a laptop. I currently have an Alienware tower that I do all my hardcore stuff on (gaming, video editing, etc, etc), and my current Laptop (a Lenovo Thinkpad T410) is getting on in years and both running very hot and kind of sluggish.

I don't really need anything overly fancy, probably a 720p display (unless, is 1080p super common now?) and just some basic specs for what I'd use it for, which would mostly be basic work/email/youtube watching stuff at home and mostly the same for travel too. As far as heavy gaming goes, IF I did game on it, the most demanding game I would think to play would be FFXIV which wouldn't be too bad to have on a laptop on low specs or whatnot when I travel.

But yeah, any recommendations for what I should aim for? Or what sort of specs I should consider as a priority for a laptop as far as processors/ram/harddrive? I was hoping to pay around $200-400CAD for it ideally while keeping it mostly modern spec wise (while obviously not totally brand-spanking new)

For anyone wondering, looks like pricing specifics have leaked out for the 3000 series

GeForce RTX 3090: $1399

GeForce RTX 3080: $799 (performance rumored 15-25% above 2080 Ti)

GeForce RTX 3070: $599 (supposedly equal to 2080 Ti)

GeForce RTX 3060: $399

Probably won't see actual benchmarks until later this week though, after the official reveal on Tuesday

Until they put out something with the same price/performance value as the 460, fuck nvidia. An xx60 card should not be fucking $400.
Also, their shitty feature lock-in. And GeForce Experience accounts.

The 400 series was a decade ago.

Yeah GPUs have gone up in price excessively but inflation is still a thing.

And you don't need GeForce Experience, I haven't had that shit installed for a good 4 or 5 years.

Aside, I find myself wondering what the mobile versions of these cards are gonna look like. The TDP of these cards has gone up pretty substantially (the 3070 has a 220w TDP whereas 2070 was 175, the 3080 is 320w!), I have to imagine there's gonna be a wide gap between mobile and desktop performance in this generation, whereas the 1000 series were within like 5-10% of each other.

I've been waiting for this series as I've been on a 1080 for some time now and it struggles ultrawide 100hz+. I don't think I'll be going $1400 but I'll almost definitely go 3080.

I can't wait out a ti at this point I don't think. Might pull the old use a 3080 till 3080ti is announced and put it on eBay while the new one ships.

Also Strix/MSI or bust. I require SILENCE.

I hope these can fit in a NZXT H1 I'm pretty sure I'm going that direction down the line (even though I just replaced my aio with a noctua).

We're not gonna be there for AAA games for a long long time. 4k got pushed before gaming hardware was really ready for it. I mean shit it took years for most of the streaming services to starting offering 4k shit on a consistent basis
