PC Build Advice/Review II: 5090 or Bust.

Looking to get the wife some PC parts for a new build for Christmas and her birthday. Both a month apart. All she plays is FFXIV on it, so I'm just looking for something that'll run the game perfectly at ultra settings. 4K is the standard now it seems, but she won't be playing the latest releases on it, so yeah. Bumping since this got buried under the 3080/3090 craziness. Also posted on /buildapc and someone recommended a 1660 TI or 2060 super running on a Ryzen 3600. Any particular motherboard I should aim for?

We're just looking to upgrade the CPU, GFX card and MOBO right now. A friend suggested the 3070, but yeah......... Gone. Thoughts?

I mean I was thinking I'd only spend $1K-1.5K tops? Remember it's only an FFXIV max settings rig. Also, I asked if she wanted a 4K monitor and she's fine with 1080p for the foreseeable future. AFAIK they backed themselves in to a corner by building off of the XIV vanilla engine, so they're stuck with that for now.

For that price, 1080p-1440p sounds about right. It’s easy to get max settings out of ffxi these days. AMD Big Navi is coming out very soon, and Zen2’s will be going down in price.

I preordered at 12:35AM, something to keep in mind, so it can make your order cancellation easier incase you get it from somewhere else.

If you use Paypal you WILL get charged on checkout, otherwise if you use the B&H checkout, you will not get charged until time of shipping, but will put an authorization hold on your card, depending on your bank, it will show, etc etc.

Managed to score a late stock 5800x. According to reviews it's practically identical to the 5900x for gaming performance so I'm good. Won't be able to install it when it comes cause I'll be in the hospital getting the main surgery to have the tumor removed but least I have something to look forward to.

Thank god i preemptively bought my ASUS X570 TUF and decided to install it with my 2700X so i can update the bios to get it ready for the zen3, so happy to have pcie gen4 now.

Started looking at the Lenovo lines as a good compromise between the business/gaming concept, but those Asus are catching my eye the more I look at them.

You need your X570 bios to be compatible with AMD AGESA 1.0.8.0 to be able to at least boot the Zen3.

I updated to the one that i think is required to properly utilize the functionality of the zen3 is AGESA 1.1.0.0 which is what i have on currently.
