B&H emailed me saying they’ll do everything possible to fulfill my 5900X order by Dec 21st, i’m totally fine with this, my PC works fine, this is good to see how Cyberpunk increases in performance (if it ever releases lol), i’m done stressing to buy stuff for my PC. I’ll patiently and happily wait.

Edit: Nice Welt, tell me how the monitor is, i’m happy with my ASUS TUF IPS 27” 144Hz HDR 1440p monitor. Lol

Maximum possible 35% off on that thing brings it down to roughly $700, not too bad for what it brings, but fuck spending more money. Lol

Aesthetically 21:9 is really pretty, but something about 16:9 just feels right. Fighting games especially.

i legit have trouble going back to 16:9 after 21:9 but yuh depends a bit on the kinds of games you're playing. unbeatable for strategy, MMO, RPG, action/adventure or FPS that draws you into the world, it's immersive and cinematic in a way not even 4K can replicate. other hand not really necessary for fighting games / competitive FPS / MOBA and your bucks could be better spent elsewhere. is also great for workstation PC, personally prefer it to a dual-monitor set-up, makes hours spent in Excel or video/audio editing a whole lot smoother.

21:9 is fantastic for workstation/casual gaming and literally garbage for competitive fps (most competitive gaming, really). “Not necessary” isn’t how to explain it; it is quite literally a detriment lol.

it's hardly some unplayable end of the world disaster as you can still run any game in 16:9 with black bars. but, as said, bucks are better spent elsewhere to emphasize higher refresh rate, lower response time, et cetera, if climbing those CSGO ranks is your raison d'etre.

So the mobo on my 7 year old pc died last night. Knew it was starting to go but almost all of the components are old and probably reaching the end of their life; that said, I have been trying to hold off on doing the full build because this has been an expensive year. Ohhhh well. I am going to be salvaging my old GTX 1080 for the moment until I can snag a deal on a 3080, and I have 16 gigs more ram (2 chips) that I will also be taking from the old build. Critique? I know next to nothing but this is my 2nd from-scratch build. Looking for this to be VR-ready, though it will probably be another year before I get that hardware, and I anticipate having to wait a similar amount of time potentially for a proper GPU. I have a 1080 and 1440 monitor that I switch between presently depending upon what I'm playing and don't have plans on upgrading to a 4k anytime soon unless I see some stupid deal on a used one or something.

Also, I know this a much larger power supply than I need but I was having trouble finding one with the right plugs.

AMD > Intel for the CPU. If you get a similar AMD board that has m.2 slots, like that one, you should get a m.2 drive for storage. You can probably spend a similar amount, esp. if you wait for Black Friday and get better speeds.

looking at approx. ~200 more on the AMD build for very similar specs, though like you say, I can wait for each of the pieces to go on sale as we're pretty close to the season

If you stick with Intel, the m.2 upgrade is easily worth the small difference.

Your Ryzen build has 2 hard drives in the part list, where the Intel version only has 1. That is the biggest difference in price. Not sure if that was by accident?

Nvidia apparently cracked AMD's smart access memory feature that gave those performance boosts for linking AMD GPUs + CPUs, and are finna enable it on all Ampere cards (running with either AMD or Intel CPUs) through future software updates.

Unless some other news has dropped it's something that's been around for a bit. Its been available on server class and workstation cards. I believe its more that AMD is bringing it consumer level CPUs/Mobos. It was announced with Navi since Zen3 really didn't need the help.

Ended up with these for the wife's Christmas present. Followed @BotRtx on Twitter for RTX in stock alerts, so hopefully I get lucky and grab a 3070 before Christmas.
