My main problem browsing these arms has been they are designed specifically for one monitor to always be on top. Like you can adjust from A and B side by side to A on top of B. But never simultaneously do B on top of A.

Yeah I'm basically looking for something like this but with extremely articulate-able arms. Dual arm mounts seem to be geared for side by side only so I'm scared that they won't have the range of motion to put one on top of the other.

Your 34 should be on the bottom. If you want the 34 on top check Reddit, there's a few dudes with double 34s over/under.
This is the issue. When I'm playing Dota, I want the 27 on the bottom.

    1) The extra width of the 34" is actively harmful in Dota because my eyes will have to travel extra distance to check the minimap in the corner.
    2) The 27" has a higher refresh rate. And yes, I can tell the difference between 120 FPS and 165 FPS. Going to 165 FPS was actually a compromise over my original primary that was a 240Hz (though I was mostly floating around 190~200 FPS not 240).

Like I could see two of your second arms working in the respect that I could put one on each side of me, going to the middle, then adjust how high each monitor arm was independently. The problem would be that switching in this setup would be a massive pain since I'm fairly sure the height adjustment on the pole isn't easy to do. Ideally I wanted arms with springs and lots of height so I could adjust the monitors without tools.

I would put the ultrawide in portrait on the side if that's the case

But I enjoy using the ultrawide as a primary for other games where a wider FoV is not a detriment, and it is very much superior as the primary when doing any sort of productivity.

I want to be able to easily and actively switch not only which monitor is the primary that is active in Windows, but physically switch which of my two screens is physically located in front of me straight on at eye level.

As someone with movable monitor stands that is way more trouble than it's worth. Set them and forget them.

Unfortunately it's looking like I might have to decide between craning my neck constantly or ditching the ultrawide and downgrading to a regular form factor secondary.

Honestly what you want to do is very unconventional and there really isnt any product on the market to quick swap vertical mounted monitors. most you could do is buy a vertical bar like the one I use for my 34" sitting atop my 38" and lift them off each time which simply isnt worth it. How close are you sitting to the desk? The monitor on top of the 34" really shouldn't be so high that you have to crook your neck up 45 degrees to see it from a neutral sitting position.

But of a fisheye effect since I had to use the wide angle lens on this but here's how I have mine set up:

    Spoiler: show

Top monitor is tilted down a smidge, which also helps.

You may have to do something custom or ghetto rig, i understand what you mean now. It would be cool to crane down the top 16:9 monitor to eye level for specific games and then crane it back on top of the UW for other games and normal browsing etc. Ideally that’s something i would love to do myself and would be the deciding factor for me buying an UW if i could do that since i mainly play fighting games. This would give me the ability to have both monitors in a vertical setup or have the top monitor go down to eye level.

To simply move the top one down and keep the bottom one in place there are arms that can do it, but like I said earlier they're really expensive. Usually wall mounted too. You need to look for vertical or omnidirectional TV mounts, and a majority of them are made for medical equipment.

Things like this are the most available thing to consumers but the price is pretty high for a mount. That said these things will hold just about anything and they can be mounted in any way you need.

Can also try something like this or some of these. If you're not trying to make holes in the wall your options are very limited.

Yep exactly why I'm exploring whether this can be done.

Right now I have my UW in the corner of my L shaped desk and my other monitor at another leg and I physically pivot based on what game I'm playing. But it's a little awkward.

Again, it is a literal disadvantage for RTS/aRTS games. 27" and 165hz is already less than ideal compared to 24" and 240Hz.

Do people still buy GTX 980s? That's how big a jump I've made with the 3090 LOL

Wondering if I should try to ebay it instead of tossing it away

Due to the shortage, yes they do. I sold my 980Ti for $250 a while back and I could have gotten like $400 near the peak of desperation.

To this day, i don’t know if i made a good decision trading my RTX 2080 to my uncle for one of his 2 PS5s on day 1. I really wanted to play Demon’s Souls, and i’ve seen the scalping situation with the PS5, but i wasn’t expecting the GPU prices to spike that high. During the launch of the ps5, older gpu prices were not spiking yet.

With all the monitor talk recently I thought I'd share this for all those Portrait or Ultrawide users:

I recently redid my setup so that I have my main ultrawide, a portrait and another landscape monitor.

The built in window snapping for Windows 10 is absolutely shit for portrait monitors, so I had to find a better solution. After a bit of googling I found that the Windows Powertoys from Microsoft has a FancyZones utility that lets you fully customize the zones your windows will snap to on a per monitor basis. With a nice GUI for setting up custom zones.

So now my portrait monitor snaps the two windows on top of each other instead of the standard right / left half snap, and for the ultrawide I sometimes like to split the center 50% of the screen on one window and two 25% windows on either side of the main.

Out of curiosity, why did you go with the 3090 instead of a 3080? Unless you're doing stuff like Blender, isn't the 3090 not even being closed to being pushed by current games?

Basically to future-proof myself for a long time. The cost wasn't an issue.

Also they didn't have any 3080s left lol. But I had basically gone in with the mindset that I would buy whatever the highest 3000s card they still had available, as literally any of them would have been a big upgrade from my 980.
