I thought I'd ask in advance. Won't do this until I deal with a transpo problem (sis dying lit a fire under my rear to solve that one) but I really need to rebuild my pc. So want to get a ballpark to save up for it after I talk to the driving school and get the ball rolling there.
First off, this is my case and I want to put a new mb + processor in it, 'Neko was saying I might need to rep the powersupply as well b/c at least one of the plugs broke. I'm keeping my new (THANK YOU SHADOWNEKO!) blue ray burner and I'll transplant my wireless network card if that isn't onboard. I'm also saving my video card due to it's still okay and I'm very aware that thanks to chip shortages video cards are hard to get, I can upgrade that later. I'd like to stay midrange but it be new enough that I could go to Windows 11 in the future. Also I'm open to ATI processors.
The more slots the better within reason as well, but yeahhh, any build ideas folks? If you don't know what my current build is, here it is.
Are you wanting to stay Intel, or go with AMD? From the research I did before I rebuilt my system last month, AMD seems to give the best bang for your buck. I didn't see too many mid range motherboards with integrated Bluetooth or Wifi, so you'll probably need to transport the card.
I am a firm believer in that if anything is broken on your PSU, just replace it. Unless you are planning on buying a 3080 or 3090, you probably don't need to go higher than a 600W power supply.
What do you mean by more slots the better though?
Since it's a special case, I'm copying this here, since it's near and dear to everyone who keeps an eye on this thread.
The free game that the Epic storefont is giving out next Thursday is PC Building Simulator.

I'm thinking AMD is fine for processors, Melena(That's what I meant by ATI, sorry for the brain fart there) I'm not made of money after all and Intel isn't as good as they once were, but yeah.
Right now I'm thinking WAY ahead, for you can understand why a car and driver's license (So okay, my situation has been really fooky) comes first. But it does take me quite a while to save money so thought I'd see if I could get ballpark now.
And by slots, I mean slots for cards. I've always been, the more card slots the better if I can swing it. Tho that isn't as big a issue as it was when I started with custom pcs; back then you had to have a sound card and a video card and..need I go on?
Well, there's really not much for expansion in current builds. You have your PCI E for your graphics. Most motherboards at the very least have integrated audio and ethernet, so you don't need expansion slots for those. Most motherboards, on top of having a few Sata slots, will have at least 1, if not 2 dedicated NVME slots for your SSD's.
Just about any device, outside of maybe video capture for streaming? (I don't know on this) should be able to be handled via an external device via USB. The days of needing one dedicated PCI-E for video, and like 5 other PCI slots for everything else are pretty much long gone.
Kk, I get it now. Anyway then enough slots so I can save my video card and I'll give neko my network if it has integrated network/bluetooth. Again, just need ballpark figure so I can put aside the money after I spend the big bucks on getting around.
Here is kind of a budget build version of what I built. This should give you enough wiggle room with a new GPU to last you several years. Only thing you may possibly want to tweak is the PSU if you decide you want to be a baller and go with a 3080TI like I did, or go with a 2TB SSD.
Prices are based on a local shop near me. If you have a micro center, or watch for newegg (bleh) or amazon deals, or go with slightly different brands, can probably bring the cost down. If you absolutely must have WiFi or Bluetooth, I'd recommend just going the external USB route for those two pieces instead of installing a physical card.
I'm not sure if the Ryzen 5 comes with a cpu cooler (the 5900, which is near top of the line does not as they assume you are going custom cooling), so, depending if you want air or AIO water cooling, add another 40-150.
Ryzen 5 5600 $259.95
Asus ROG Strix b450-F: $139.95 (no bluetooth or wifi integrated, has integrated ethernet)
Crucial Ballistix 16gb 3600mhz: $84.95
Samsung 980 M.2 SSD 1TB: $129.95
EVGA 650W Bronze PSU: $64.95
Wifi is necessary in this house, so if I can't find one that has it or a extra slot for my wireless network card (which does have Bluetooth with it btw), I'll use the Ethernet to the little mini router I got. ^^ Even with sis dead I really don't want to mess with wires. But that does give me a idea on what to save up for.
Also that mb does have (for modern computers) plenty of expansion slots. As long as it'll fit in my case I'm fine. I'm just hanging on to my video card for now, EVGA 1060 isn't bad and I'd rather wait for a card upgrade until you don't have to jump through hoops for a new card.
Yeah, it's an ATX motherboard, so it will fit in your mid size case no problem. Unfortunately I've just found the motherboards that come with integrated bluetooth and wifi are more of the high end boards. Dropped almost as much on the motherboard as I did on the CPU for that very reason.
MSI gamer's edge wifi is a x570 with both for around $200. It's not a stellar board but it has a good set of features for the price. I'm using it in my PC with a 3080 and a 5800 with no issues over a year later.
Not necessarily the PC itself but finished some other room ambience.

Need to decide on a 4th Displate. Any suggestions?
Sweet. I've always wondered about the Displate things. They worth it?
I'd say so. The large ones are about $50 each so kinda pricey but good quality paper posters are already 25-30 anyway so it isn't much of a premium. The mounting system is really nice and the prints themselves are lovely. I have a 30% off code if you want it since I won't be using it before it expires.
Sure I'd take that! Thanks. Gotta figure out what my first one will be
$50 really? Shit i thought they were more expensive.
Damn that set up puts mine to shame.
Looks like a mess lmao
Down the line, i’ll get a better monitor than my 1440p asus TUF… eventually…
