Is there any benefit to an extender I can plug my TV, PS4, and PC into? or would that be the same strength as the wifi signal? basically im wondering if i should get this https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00JFOP6...=3P7LICF3P8QNN vs this https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00PVCW2...=3P7LICF3P8QNN

Just go all out and get a massive switch installed and Cat6 ran to every room in your home. That way you can be hardwired everywhere.

I have no input on plugging in a range extender directly into a device. I have an Asus RT-12 (I think) N300 that I use. Bought it for like, $10.

My crib is too small to need an extender. Good luck.

I do want to wire the whole house but it will be a while. Just bought the house in June and have a long list of projects that come first.

I went to do it in mine but it looked like too much of a headache for the rooms I wanted. So now I'm hiding wires behind furniture...

Mine is annoying because the back part of our living room used to be an outdoor porch area that long ago was converted to extra interior space. So there is nothing below. I'm a terrible handyman so me trying to do wiring would most likely be a mess. Other spots don't seem too bad in our house since we have a basement and then the main floor and upstairs. It's a project I want to do in a year or too after we do a roof, other interior things, and possibly siding. If property keeps trending upward then I want to do the entire 'smart house' thing before selling because this isn't our final residence.

Going to bed now but I'll check this thread in morning.

So I asked about SATA and Power cables earlier, the ones I previously ordered, they don't plug/fit into the power supply.

I'm not sure of what term to search for, but what cable do I need to power a SSD drive from my power supply? The one that's labelled "HDD/ODD" on the power supply has 6 holes (3 horizontal x 2 vertical) holes. I need a cable that goes in there that can power a SSD.

The cable I ordered, it seemed to potentially plug in to another cable, like a converter? Reference: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inateck-Int...%2Bcables&th=1

In the main picture of that cable, the middle cable, I need to plug that into somewhere and I got no where to plug in, hence me asking what the power cable is called that can directly power a SSD, or allow me to plug in that middle cable to power 2 SSDs. Thanks! and zzzz

    Should be a SATA cable...

Just google your SSD + how to install in Google either way. Should be pretty easy.

Sounds like you have a modular power supply and just don't have all the outputs plugged in. Do you know what happened to the cords that came with your power supply when you bought it?

I just looked up a modular/none modular power supply, and yup, mine is modular. The holes/sockets are similar to the ones on the left, the 6 hole ones. The vertical sockets however, are none existant on my PSU.

Unfortunately I brought I desktop unit off Dell's outlet for a very good price and discount, so it came with no additional cables.

@Zet: Yeh I thought it'd be simple but basically if my PSU had the vertical slots shown above it'd be a no brainer, but it turned out that it didn't haha

So I'm just looking for the intermediary/another cable that can go into the PSU and to my SSD; the ones that came with it didn't work and my googling is failing hard because they seem to point to using that 4 pin vertical slot/cable.

edit: I found the PSU on ebay lol, here's an image, sorry for size. 2 of the 3 "HDD/ODD" slots are free, and I intend to buy something to plug into that.

edit3: I did another search for modular SATA cable and wooooo i think I found what I need: https://www.moddiy.com/products/6%25...iABEgKlP_D_BwE lol

Just need to find it on amazon now

edit4: getting mixed results at the moment, i can only find a bunch of "silverstone PSU" cables that's specifically for that PSU haha, according to comments. Man this is more trickier than I thought

edit5: the above (edit4) applied to amazon only. i found more generic cables outside of amazon. buying one!/two

A cheap option would be building a cantenna and point it as best you can to the wifi source next door, making sure there's as few things like freezers or refrigerators in between as possible. Say their network uses 2.4ghz, you can get a router to bridge onto that 2.4ghz network and rebroadcast across 5ghz for full speed as rebroadcasting at the same ghz will cut the max possible speeds in half (this is wireless bridging, another option with cantenna-ing).

After 9 years (2008), I'm finally getting around to building a new PC..

    WINDOWS XP 32
    CPU INTEL|C2D E8400 3G 775 45N R
    MB GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4 775 X38 RT
    MEM 2Gx2|GSK F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK R
    HD 150G|WD 10K 16M SATA WD1500ADFD
    HD 500G|WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD5000AAKS
    VGA SAPPHIRE 100225L HD3870 512M RT
    CASE NZXT|ZERO BK/SIL RT
    PSU OCZ|OCZ700GXSSLI 700W RT

Plus all the other random components, that build cost me $1,372.89. Not to shabby for 9 years lol.

Going to start buying this stuff today. Running W10.

    CPU: Intel - Core i5-7600 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.88 @ OutletPC)
    Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($181.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($145.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Samsung - 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($134.89 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($46.88 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus - Radeon RX 570 4GB ROG STRIX Video Card ($199.99 @ Local)
Case: Phanteks - Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($87.98 @ Newegg)
    Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($111.98 @ Newegg)
    Optical Drive: LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($45.88 @ OutletPC)
    Sub Total: $1196.18

    Monitor: Dell - U2415 24.1" 1920x1200 60Hz Monitor ($253.21 @ Amazon)
    Monitor: Dell - U2415 24.1" 1920x1200 60Hz Monitor ($253.21 @ Amazon)
    UPS: CyberPower - CP1000PFCLCD UPS ($149.95 @ Adorama)
    Sub Total: $656.37

    Grand Total: $1852.55

It's a shame that 16:10 has run out of favor, tots better yo. Also a shame to see that WD Black drives are just rebranded Blue, and 10k drives are overpriced. Thought about a 1TB SSD, but for an extra 300$ I couldn't justify it for a storage drive.

Kind of on odd build, but I felt it was a good compromise on decent price for decent performance. Some of it is overkill (MB, PS, CPU) but the prices aren't too much more than the lower tiers.

Also, any suggestions for a good/inexpensive DD-WRT flashable Router? Was thinking about Netgear R7000.
