Not exactly what you're looking for, but this spreadsheet has tons of updated data relevant to SBs and other factors: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=938172420
For Cagnazzo I'll probably just have Cloud/Terra/Squall all with thunder abilities.
Is his tidal wave on a move counter, like after x moves, tidal wave gets prepped, or is it just random?
Ultimate+ was an awful combination of barely any VIII synergy and absolutely no good physical multihit SBs which made this fight a huge uphill battle. My best multi hit SBs are Firion's Wild Rose Axe and Zack's Rush Assault; I wish I was lying. -_-
Took me the better part of last night S/Ling to finally get the mastery.
Combined hyperions on robertfb's advice (thx again) so syn was hyperion++, ochu tentacle +, blitz sword and mesmerize dagger ++.
Ult: aerora thundara blizzara strikes on balt, ag and tyeo. Skills did all the work here, not soul breaks. Damage is very frontloaded, once I took down rajin it was smooth sailing. Blindshot stalled raijin and fujin. Fire res accessories made seifer sad.
Ult+: full magic mit here (power armor full break, magic breakdown, shellga, pro from power sash). Forgot dispel. Saved ssbs for 40%. Mvp was drain strike on steiner, vastly simplifying my heaing decisions (and a healing moment from precious watch. Meteor hit for 2k when sent was down so damage output is high. Hp accessory would be good.
Gonna try U+ tonight. Any general strategy advice?should I rush or slowburn it
I just kinda went full throttle charging SB's until the last 35%, but I didn't run into Regen spam on my run. Just a lot of Ultima Blades.
I can't really say, to be honest, since my run turned out the way it did. But I would think controlling the fight until the last phase and then rushing down is best.
It's hard to rush it per se since it has so much HP/def, but you'll want to get it over with quickly because the weapon gets nastier at low HP and the medal requirements is to kill before light pillar, which is a fixed 10k damage. That would be bad. Save soul breaks for 30% and below, and try to mitigate both magic and phys; most of its damage is phys but it has powerful scripted and timed magic attacks. It also starts slow but gets very fast at low HP.
Thanks for the advice. I used a Shout strat and some mitigation and rushed with my best soul breaks where I could, but ended up dropping Shellga in favor of Dispel cos of Regen. Meteor was no issue for me but Ultima would bring me pretty close to death
After numerous close shaves at like 5% I decided to just mythril it and stored SBs to start off on a stronger note.
Personally found this a lot more challenging than I'd have preferred.. And my 8 synergy is supposedly decent.
Anyone have a strategy for someone without the trinity? I have tried bringing every kind of RW I can think of and as soon as he hits 50% it is an aoe spam that no amount of healing can stay ahead of. Protectga/Shellga are utterly useless. How can a protected/shelled character in synergy armor eat 3k damage per hit? As soon as I hit 50% the fight is over every time. I cannot eat back to back to back to back aoe's every damn round. I've been able to get through ultimates by cheesing them with Flames of Rebirth on my Eiko but it only works when I can heal up the person who dies. It doesn't work when I am eating aoe's every round and just dying as soon as I res. This is driving me insane. Every time, 5 down, 5 up, 5 back down again. I have nearly every slot filled with synergy and my melee's hit for crap at almost 500 attack and my mages don't have the defense for this kind of spam without a wall. I've tried MG8, stoneskin, SG, shout, divine guardian and I am getting nowhere. 50% fight over, here comes the spam round after round. I am at nearly 100 tries and they all end at the same spot.
Wall, protect, shell, full break, magic breakdown. Will cut down most of it. The magic breakdown alone really cuts down the damage to make it.
Are you gearing for def/res armor? It'll slow down your kill but setting a higher base def/res to work with makes a huge difference to the effects of almost all def/res buffs since they're +%
If that doesn't work maybe eat a mythril and hope for +10% def/res?
Can you post a setup/stats summary? And yes, don't rely on RR.
Minotaur plate, Seifer's coat, Generic Synergy armor, Esthar bracers and Full Break and breakdowns don't do a damn thing through all that. I am not kidding, the instant he hits 50% it is nothing but AoE all damn day long. If I go full turtle and try to out defense him then I can't do any damage. Literally had a nearly 500 attack Lightning barely breaking 2k damage on hits. I have all 3 of Rinoa's weapons and I tried a mage team but they just get eaten alive. If I try a shout team I can't handle the damage output. If I go mage team I can't take the damage output. If I go full defense team I can't do any dps. The fight ends at 50% every damn time. I have never been so pissed off at an ultimate. Ultima weapon > Ultima Weapon > Quake > Ultima Weapon is his favorite combo. There is no way to survive this kind of damage output when I have to choose between getting my dps up or getting my defense up.
Typical physical team: I've tried SG/MG8/Shout
Irvine: gun, Esthar Bracers, Power/Magic Breakdown R3, Master Sniper (Fast Ammo)
Lightning: Shear Trigger, Seifer Coat, Dismissal R4, Life siphon R4, Pride of the Red Wings (Crushing Blow)
Rinoa: Cardinal, 2 R4 4star magic, 5 star 10 gallon hat, Witch of Succession (All 3 unique weapon soul breaks)
Eiko: Flute, Balamb Garden Uniform, Curaja R5, Protectga r3, Mako Might (Emerald Light, Flames of Rebirth)
Ramza: 6 star Mesmerize Blade, Minotaur Plate, R2 Full Break, R3 Banishing Blade, Adventurer's Dagger (Tail Wind, Veil of Annulment)
Mage Team: Focus/MG8/Divine Guardian/SG
Rinoa/70 Edea: Cardinal/Rising Sun, R4 4 stars, Witch of Succession, Chosen Sorceress, usually give Edea Esthar here for slightly useful soul break
Tyro: other Rinoa Throwing weapon, Mana's paen, usually R4 4 star magic usually Minotaur plate for chance at shellga. I thought hat for witchcraft but he wouldn't live long enough.
Eiko as above
Ramza as above mostly for dispel and second curaga/protect
Every time they do these physical/magic ultimates I don't stand a chance. I can guard myself for one or the other but with no natural wall and my only natural haste tied to my curaga I have to choose defense or damage up but I can't get both. I've been able to get through with Flames of Rebirth no medal penalty death on the last few but this one is constant back to back aoe that kills my party before I can heal them up and get it back on them.
I'd swap Pride for Battleforged/Ace Striker on Lightning and perhaps give her Armor Break to use before she CBs. You may do fewer damage per individual hit, but you're going to get more CBs out of her. Also feel like using Ramza and Irvine is kind of counterproductive. I'd drop Irvine and do Magic/Full Break on Ramza. I've not really been sold on the weapon specific damage RMs, instead favoring Dragoon's Determination or Self-Sacrifice and Rebel's Might. In replacing Irvine, you can go with someone who can either use Banishing Blade or Dispel. I think Rinoa can do the latter, so pairing her and Edea might not be a bad idea since they could both use the mage weapons. Not really much else you can do with Eiko, just keep using her and accept the early part of the fight won't have haste.
Lack of wall puts you in a tight spot, since it means either that or Shellga from your RW. I'm not inclined to say 2 charges enough for Wall with how tanky the Weapon is, too. So, dunno, might get lucky with using MG8 (which would also solve your haste issue early in the fight), but if you're like me, hones will start to wane near the end. I think I managed more via having 2 decent damaging SSBs.
I don't see how you could barely break 2k on a skill, but barely breaking 2k on the attack command at about 480 atk seems right at 50% and lower. Maybe if lightning was in the back row. Putting about 100 more atk on that to soft cap increases your damage by 50% to about 3k. With defense debuffs and damage RM the damage should be around 6-7k+ per skill use.
I think you're hurting your damage too much with a mixed party here. There's no elemental weakness here so you need to brute force the damage and that favors a focused boostga.
In general looking at the phys team actually I'd say the problem is your damage. Irvine is bad for damage and durability and as I understand it isn't getting a RS weapon either. Can he hit soft cap for master sniper? He's being used as a utility debuffer which is OK except Ramza is also being used similarly, except ramza can't effectively shellga and heal because he has no way to gain meter faster. So there's a conflict there. Lightning is good here although no ele weakness doesn't play into her strengths. Eiko is good here (emerald light gives you a shot at picking something other than a hastega RW). Basically I think irvine is messing things up here. And maybe a drain strike on lightning over dismissal, although I guess it's dubious if she'll be damaging enough to heal up.
Magic wise I think you're actually better off, because you can take natural boostga+hastega+healga and bring RW sent. On the other hand I guess it's pretty hard to actually get meter for that. (On the other other hand it's easier to bring a secondary healer skill in a mage config than a phys config). Which is probably a better idea anyway, if you can't mitigate then you can at least heal.
Despite the steaming pile of shit that is my FFVIII synergy I managed to master both ultimate fights. Shout + Fenrir Overdrive really is broken.
