Someone posted the graphic in the main thread, but so far all of the people who were closest to being in charge were either fatalists (let's just nuke NYC) or evil. It's not about not putting anyone in charge, but not wanting to rush into signing documents just because Stark felt bad.

Think we all need to relax and take a moment to appreciate scarjo's attempt to suffocate bucky between her thighs.

Just wanted to ask, it was last minute though, wasn't it? As in they had already begun filming by the time Sony agreed to let Spidey be a part of the Marvel stuff. Or is my timeline for RL events kind of off?

    PROS
    - with everyone else in fawning over Parker + King Kitty Cat, the youthful exuberance and regal reserve, respectively, are nice changes of pace from the quipsters and tortured past archetypes that dominate Marvel's cast. fight scenes with both were great, died at Petey yelling you have the right to remain silent.
    - Big Antman
    - one of if not the funniest Marvel film. not as cutesy and reliant upon Whedonesque semi-human dialogue as Age of Ultron, Antman and Spidey and Falcon brought some much needed diversity of laughs.
    - Falcon-Bucky bromances with Steve and rivalry over it killed
    - Action scenes were maybe not quuuuite as visceral as The Winter Soldier but were more creative and miles above other superhero movies. The Brothers Russomasoz can film some God damn people getting punched in the God damn face
    - Captain Zemo Zoller. love Daniel Brühl to pieces and he brought his scar tissue puppydog intensity to bear as always. know a lot of people thought him a weak villain but with the driving conflict being internal, collectivist greater good vs individual right to choose + individuals being consumed by vengeance over what they've lost, you didn't need a strong villain running around punching Avengers in the face or plotting how to destroy the world. thought the old voicemails were a nice humanizing touch. didn't really need his final dialogue explaining his precise motives, shoddy hamfisted writing, but it did help fulfill Black Panther's arc as he laid down his pain and rage, contrasted nicely with how Stark couldn't.
    - Elizabeth Olson is easy on the eyeballs in that getup
    - Airport scene was great yes BUT final threeway fight scene with Cap-Buck-Ironman was prolly my fave if only for the emotional weight it was carrying and how gritty and no punches pulled it was by the end. poor Tony.
    - it's not as weighty as Nolan's philosophizing but the internal ideological divide facing the team does render this an unusually thoughtful and adult fare, certainly much more than i want to rule the world dad! driving force of many superhero films. as the divide on this board (and in the rest of geekdom) shows they Russes managed to represent both sides well both intellectually and emotionally, pitting government oversight and responsibility vs the individual's freedom to choose, and pitting Cap's loyalty and love for his friend against Tony's guilt and sorrow.

    CONS
    - Marvel is just terrible at the romances. Cap x his dead broad's niece and Vision x Fingerpaint Girl (a love based on paprika) both felt as contrived and pointless as Scarjo x Hulk. we're told these characters like each other but given no evidence of why they like each other. Deadpool x Inara remains byyyyyy faaaaaaaar their most believable and organic romance.
    - Russos did a great job with so many moving parts but some characters and motivations do get a little short-changed. Hawkeye appearing out of nowhere with barely a word of explanation + Scarlett Witch going from hey house arrest is ok with my dreamy vibranium boyfriend to i'm gonna punch you through the center earth sucka were prolly the worst offenders.
    - No deaths. given The Civil War comic storyline is defined by death the Marvel franchise seems to be playing it awful safe. so far i think we've only lost Quicksilver (who cares, no one in this film because it's never fuckin mentioned) and Agent Coulson (but not really) through 2 phases. doesn't need to be Game of Thrones but Martin has a point in saying you can only get so emotionally invested in the danger the characters face when you know they're going to pop up right as rain by the end.

overall on a scale from po' boy sandwich to Abbasid Caliphate i give this film 4 Mars Voltas

WARNING SPOILERS!! Captain America: Civil War - Discussion Thread - SPOILERS!!

My only question is how far is Marvel shifting from their original time line now that Spidey is involved??

The final Bucky scene seemed like it could have been the original post credit scene pre Marvel/Sony agreement.

But now what we have Spidey in the universe, they're pushing back BP's film in favor of spiderman which would in turn mean BP's films drops after Infinity War 1, no? Cause if that's the case when/how are they going to explain Rodgers & co chilling in Wakanda

What IS the new timeline for the movies? I know some got shuffled in the wake of Sony+Spidey returning to the flock.

They might not need to do much in the scheme of things: Isn't Sony still handling Spider-Man, just with input from Marvel's folks?

yeh Spiderman rights are shared, Sony will still produce and distribute all films in the Spiderman franchise, but Marvel can use him for crossovers and Marvel characters can appear in his films (Stark is confirmed for the 2017 reboot). don't think it'll change the timeline all that much other than pushing Black Panther back a few months.

I think production included alternatives to the Sony deal going south. So they did -plan- on it, just maybe not as constructed because of how far they were in to the MCU.

That is quite interesting. I'm happy they included Spidey but you can tell that the way they fitted him into the movie, should the deal have gone south, they could have swapped him out and replaced him with someone else if they really had to. He wasn't super integral to the plot overall

Just got back from seeing it so it's super fresh on the mind, but I thought it was outstanding. I really loved Black Panther and Spider-man's actor, tbh, especially Tom Holland. He surprised me a fuckton. His exchange early on with Tony in his room about "What are you..Spider-boy? Spider-guy?" was just too good, and I loved his reaction once he got in there and started fighting. He was impressive.

Paul Rudd was also a good, comedic surprise who did some really cool shit. Overall, I really think they did a great job at giving the entire cast their own time while also remembering it was a Captain America movie.

I've never seen a movie that juggled almost a dozen "main" characters at once and done it successfully. Most can't even do two at once correctly.

A big part of that is not having to spend any time establishing the characters since everyone (outside of Zemo) should be familiar and defined to most of the audience.

Same. I'm also glad they showcased Spidey's strength in the movie. They got that shit right.

There was much deviation from the comics so I wasn't looking for Cap to die or even stand trial but Spider-Man should have seen the light and switched teams. Peters ideals are more inline with Cap, he was just in awe that Mr Stank was paying attention to him. Second beef... Marisa is too fucking cute to be aunt May.... Needs to be aged with makeup at least. Other than that loved the movie.
Second favorite Stan Lee cameo, first been the Deadpool cameo.
